Learning martial skills as opposed to not learning will obviously be beneficial in a street fight. That being said, an accomplished street fighter will definitely have the advantage over a person comparably trained in any of the popular fighting styles.
The reason for this is because in any reputable training facility there are rules for hand to hand combat limiting the techniques that may be used against another. A street fighter has no such limitations. The only exception to this might be students attaining the rank of brown or black belt where some of the more deadly techniques will be tought.
The exception to the exception, though, might be a self-defense course that incorporates not only eastern classical fighting styles, but modern street fighting as well. In this case the instructor trained fighter might indeed have the advantage.

Would a golf class help you become a better golfer?
Is school neccessary for children?
It depends on the individual if you dont take it seriously no it wont matter even if you have a black belt. You get what you put into it. Martial Arts is the study of fighting. You cant expect to not have played golf or basketball your whole life and think your going to dunk on Michael Jordon.

i personally took Taekwondo for many years and if i were to get in a fight everything i learned would be GREAT for a street fight the stance we are normally in is a stance you would want to be in , in a street fight . in a street fight in my opinion Taekwondo is the best BUT you have to learn it correctly certain dojos (in Japanese it translates "place of the Way") teach newer types of Taekwondo witch means that they twist it it's not like it originally was. it's better to learn the original usually it always is. So if i were to be asked witch martial arts is best for street fighting it would be Taekwondo and Judo ( Judo is more grappling and throwing as you said ) hope i helped!

ring fighters arnt always good at street fighting. krav maga is the best for streets or at least in my experience it has been. ive seen ring fighters try to practice fighting in a real street fight situation where the guy had a knife and he did mma and was stabbed 11 times. if it were a real fight hed be dead. once learning krav maga, he actually did better and was able to ward off fighters. thats because krav maga is for real. it involves weapons, groin shots, and w/e is legit in the streets (which is everything)

ive practice boxing, judo, and currently in shoalin kung fu. you learn to adapt and change to your situation and plus there are no rules in a street fight, so... use what you know and be creative! lol

Martial Arts is self-defense, so any class would benefit for a fight... until someone takes out a knife, gun or a weapon on you.

Depends on what you learn. But carrying a knife will help you more, just get a book on stabbing and slashing and nobody will mess with you.
