if God is greater than us, then we cannot possibly "HURT" him, if He is compassionate and merciful, if He is love, why would he torture, seek vengeance, condemn, curse, send us to an ever lasting torment, etc? Moreover, if he created us fallible, then why punish us when we fail? Man, like any other living creature, from an amoeba to a whale, is born, growths, develops, peaks and then gets old and dies, these are facts. So why fear an eternal Torment if God is supposed to be so "LOVING"?

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7, I love this verse, it makes you think, We are to fear God from a perspective as Father and child, Jesus said to let the children come to Him and forbid them not, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Thats how he loves us, He knows whats best for us but sometimes we go against Him. Sometimes we rebel totally against Him denying that He even exists, the consequences of that are terrible. God does not want us to fear Him as in a revengeful I will kill you way, but He wants you to fear Him in a Fatherly way. Jesus died on that Cross at Calvery for our sins. Thats how much He loved us. As humans we are sinners, God created us that way, He wants us to serve Him willingly with love because He first Loved us and Jesus the Fathers only Son gave His life for us. Jesus said in John 3:3 that we need to become Born Again spiritually to get to spend an eternity in Heaven with him. That is how we show our Love back to God by serving Jesus Christ. Jesus says to confess our sins and call upon the name of the Lord and ye shall be saved. Romans 10:9,13. His love is unconditional, He will save you as you are, all you have to do is confess your love for him, just pray this sinners prayer of faith and you can be a born again Christian today, right now, and live out the rest of your life knowing that you are going to Heaven someday soon, just pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you made a decision for Christ or have any questions, Please send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

I see myself as "greater" than my children in that I am older, wiser, and in charge of them. They can and have hurt me in the past with their unloving behavior and disrespect to me. I feel that is the same with God.

He is love, but He is also just. He gave us rules to live by. If we followed those rules, there would be no punishment for us. Imagine if you went into a courtroom in the US and told the judge, "I know you're a good judge, and I'm sorry I committed my crime, so you'll let me go, right?" A good judge would do his job and follow the law and give you the punishment you deserve. So does God.

If your punishment was a fine of $5 million dollars or life in prison, you'd go to jail, right? But what if someone paid that fine for you? You'd go free. That's why Jesus died for us. He paid the fine for us breaking the law. Because He never sinned, He took on the punishment for all sins that ever were or ever would be committed. So His payment of the fine is acceptable to God. All we have to do is accept that He paid the fine.

We have a God who made a way that He would take our punishment. That's pretty loving, I think.

As far as fearing God, I fear someone who has the ability to allow my next breath or not allow it. And that kind of fear is different than fearing other things.

And God made us fallible because He didn't want robots. He created us to love Him and so He had to give us a choice to do so or not do so.

Fear has been thrown around and changed so much that it has a different meaning these days than in Biblical days! I believe that when the Bible says you should fear the Lord, it means you should know that your not above Him and you should respect that, and Him. It doesn't mean fear Him like you would fear getting shot.

Dictionary.com defines fear (in the sixth definition)- to have reverential awe of.

The fear is meant in a reverence sense, not an evil sense. It is mean to respect and honor (fear) the Lord.

Hey,
God is not separate from us. We are one with god. People develop egos which makes them tune out their god. it's the negative thinking, and judgemental side of people.
god is only love.

Did your mom or dad ever tell you not to touch a hot stove and you did anyway and got burned ? Same concept. You were told not to do it, you did it anyway, and reaped the consequences. Your mom or dad didn't burn you, you did.

Sorry honey, but I don't put my faith in anyone but myself. I am responsible for the good or bad things that happen in my life.

IDK. I was raised to fear God. However, my fear turned to hostility. After a few years though, I realized that fearing a loving God was illogical. I now love, instead of fear, Her.
