Depends on the soup:
French Onion: Sourdough bread/rolls (or better yet, serve it in an edible bread bowl)
Tomato: Grilled cheese (plain or with bacon or bacon and tomatoes)
Chicken Noodle: BLTs or French bread/rolls
Bread or saltine crackers are really good to go with any soup; or you may want to make a salad or toasted sandwich. For example, toast some bread, spread some mayo on one side, top with ham and provolone and roasted red peppers. Then place the sandwiches in the oven for a little while to warm them up and melt the cheese. Yummy!

I often use this recipe: Thoroughly mix 2 parts grape jelly with one part creamy peanut butter in a bowl and refrigerate it for about 1-2 hours. When ready make PB&J sandwiches. They really go nice with homemade vegetable/beef soup and a cold glass of milk.
The reason for the pre mixing is that it lets the flavors blend better and gives a much different flavor than slapping jelly on one side of the bread and P-nut butter on the other. Try it! It's really a treat.

When I make soup, I don't make a side with it. I normally just have some good french bread to eat with the soup.

A nice salad, or toasted Italian bread, or grilled cheese, panini, something on that order, I guess it depends on the type of soup you have.
