usually they prescribe augmentin (which is amoxicillin and clavulonic acid), or clindamycin because they cover the widest spectrum of bacteria in the mouth. But it does depend on the dentist and if you have any allergies to specific types of antibiotics or medications.

Amoxicillin and Clindamycin are the antibiotics of choice here, though.

BUT, if you're asking this question because you have some 'extra' antibiotics on hand, toss them... you'll need a full prescription's worth.

Depends on the type of infection, the doctor/dentist writing the prescription, and if the person getting the medication has any allergies to medicines or other medicines that would interact.
