3 minutes, if you leave it in for longer, it will become bitter.

Christy is correct. I drink it a lot and more than 3 min, does make it bitter, so if you are drinking it without any sugar or honey, then you especially don't want the bitter taste. That is why many people do not care for brewed teas. It is because they allow the bag to steep too long, thus ruining the smooth mellow taste of tea.

The more anti-oxidants are drunk, the better the health effect. Just make sure the tea-bags have been in the hot water long enough to dissolve all the ingredients, after that is makes no difference, stirring also makes no difference. I usually leave them in for about 2-3 minutes, and that seems long enough.

Be patient on the health, it will come eventually. You should drink tea for the enjoyment. As far as steeping it, 2-3 minutes for tea bags and 3-4 minutes on loose leaf teas. There are so many variables drinking green tea, it can be overwhelming. For example, the temp of the water, the type of green tea, where it came from, if it's a tea bag or loose leaf style
