"To make all of this even more astonishing, all of this growing, shaping, and sculpting takes place in the first 20 weeks or so following conception. From 24 weeks of pregnancy on, everything gets bigger. But the main transformations are already past."

That quote, from an article, shows that a baby developes right away, very soon after conception, read the rest of the article to see more.
My thought is, If the baby is so developed that eary, and is growing from a day or so after conception, meaning it is alive, then is an abortion murder?
In your eyes, what do you think, I already have my opinion, I want to see what everyone else says.

Thanks.

Thing is, it is like a parasite, but will BECOME a human, a parasite will never become a human. Is killing a baby ok because it cannot take care of its self?

by the way, I am against abortion UNLESS the mothers life is at stake or the baby will come out terribly malformed ect.
Rape - adoption, make something good out of something bad.

Some cases I am for, some I am against.

Not everything is cut and dry. There is a lot of gray in situations like this.

---------

To the lady above,

Yes it is a violent procedure for the child, (I mean it is killing the baby, afterall), but in cases where the mother has a high chance of dying, the baby will have severe birthdefect, or the pregnancy was a result of rape, the mother should be given a choice.

It's only 100% murder if you're a religious fundamentalist. If you're not, you can use reason to look at the issue in more depth. Depending on the country you live in, abortion generally isn't murder if it's performed in the first 3 months of the pregnancy. In the UK (my country) It's perfectly legal (ie not murder) to have an abortion if the pregnancy is less than 24 weeks old. The same is the case in pretty much all western countries I know about, and I guess south africa is the same. Any later than that and you won't be allowed to have one unless your own life is in danger. When trying to decide if it's murder or not, remember that a foetus is not a human being yet, it doesn't feel pain or emotion like a child or an adult. The question is, at what point does a foetus become developed enough to start feeling pain and emotion?

Conception – a new life is created! The DNA in the 46 chromosomes of that small cell contain full instructions about this new person’s sex, eye color, shoe size, brain capacity and other physical traits. Every person’s life begins at conception – as a single, separate, living cell. After this point, nothing new is added except nutrition and oxygen.

Week One – At about the sixth day, the growing child attaches to the wall of the mother’s uterus. The uterus’ nutrient-rich lining welcomes the tiny tenant and soon the child is sending out the “all systems go” chemical signal that can be detected on a home pregnancy test.

Weeks 3-4 – The baby’s heart is beating! The heart begins to beat as early as 18 days after conception and is beating strongly by 21 days. The baby’s development is rapid during this time. Between three and four weeks, the baby’s head and spinal column become easily distinguishable, and arm buds appear. Legs will begin to appear just days later. The umbilical cord forms, transporting the child oxygen and nutrients absorbed from the mother’s blood by the placenta.

Week 6 – Already fingers are forming and the child’s mouth and lips are apparent! During this time, the baby begins to make his or her first movements. Blood courses through the little body – often a different blood type then the mother’s. At six weeks, the baby has brain waves that can be measured with an electroencephalogram.

Weeks 7-8 – At seven weeks, the baby swims freely in the womb with a natural swimmer’s stroke. Even though the baby is moving, the mother does not begin to feel the baby’s movements until about 4½ months into the pregnancy. As early as eight weeks, the baby begins to swallow the amniotic fluid. Some babies even begin hiccupping!

Weeks 10-11– The baby’s little feet are perfectly shaped. The baby also has eyelids, fingernails and fingerprints. The baby can even grasp an object placed in the hand! The kidneys are beginning to form urine and the baby begins to mimic breathing. All the baby’s body systems are in place and active. The baby has a skeletal structure, nerves and circulation. From this point on, there is only growth in the size and maturation of the organs already present.

Week 14– The baby’s little feet are perfectly shaped.

Week 16– The baby is now big enough that his or her movements can be felt by the mother.

Week 20– In the fifth and sixth months, the baby responds to a number of outside stimuli: music, sudden noises, and voices. The baby will especially respond to the sound of its mother’s voice. Babies at this age also respond to pats on the mother’s abdomen, and react with pleasure, excitement, anxiety or fear to various external and environmental stimuli.

Week 23– The baby could now survive outside the mother’s womb. Not long ago, the age of survival – or viability – was 30 weeks; then 25 weeks. Today it’s 23 weeks. From this point until birth the baby simply gains weight and strength. When the baby’s ready to meet the outside world he or she will arrive.

Answer me this: Where is the line between abortion and infanticide?

There was a time in the US and Europe that a woman would die first before letting anything happen to her unborn child.

The far leftists in the world have brought morality to the single most immoral act that any human could do. Take the life of the most innocent of all innocents.

It tells a lot about our world today.

Btw, if a person kills a litter of kittens, then the Left calls that a crime. If a woman kills an unborn child that is a victory for "human rights", how lame can we get?

Also, btw, isn't the abortion issue more about the "free to have sex" issue then anything else? Abstinence does work, but forget about the logical answer. And isn't it lame how those who support abortion will not acknowledge that a child is being killed? People can justify anything, can't they?

Dr Spock was shown as incorrect in most of his child-related arguments in the eighties sometime so I have my doubts as to his saying fetuses are pretty much developed by 20 weeks.
Even if it were true, that would be equivalent to the second trimester and most abortions performed that late in a pregnancy are for medical reasons. 92% are performed in the first trimester.
In regards to 'Lisa T's' response-That is the dumbest story I've heard. Who lets the pregnancy carry on that long if they're not going to follow through? The body changes and the carrier has to go through nausea and other issues by that time. Some even already start developing stretch marks. If it is a medical reason, why are anti-choice people so inhumane as to force a fully developed human into carrying a fetus which may not 'make it' anyway? Have you ever heard of still births?
An abortion is defined as a conscious decision to end a pregnancy. If Gawd existed, he would be all-knowing/all-powerful so that would make him the being responsible for the majority of miscarriages, making him the largest performer of abortions.
Plus, abortions aren't cheap so it's hardly a preferred birth control.
PS: Hitler's mom was advised to have an abortion...she was 'Pro-life'. Nice company to be in, huh?

unless done to save the mother's life or when done unintentionally, abortion is murder to me...when you purposely kill someone who cannot fight back, that's murder..

that the mother has the right to choose is simply an absurd and misplaced legal ratiocination.. the mother could have exercised that choice more responsibly when she did the act which led to the conception of the child..

it is unfortunate that modern society has increasingly embraced the notoriety of snuffing out a budding life upon the pretext of freedom of choice.. freedom is the liberty to do right and never wrong..one cannot insist on doing something so morally depraved just because she has the right of choice..we cannot be so free so as to forget that life is a divine creation that is not easily the subject of frail and indecisive human choice..for the power to destroy proceeds from the power to create..therefore, if life is a divine creation, the power to to destroy it is exclusively for the heavens to divine..

what is more unfortunate is that the fetus has come to be largely regarded as a mere parasite.. the view, WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, is as appalling as the idea of hell itself..a fetus is not necessarily a product of irresponsible actions..a fetus is a divine being created to fulfill a divine purpose..once conceived, a fetus is not a property the disposition of which is soley upon its mother's disposal..it becomes a separate and independent being from the legal, moral and biblical stance..once the fetus is conceived, the mother is reduced to mere steward of God and the State who must ensure its well being until the time where emancipation could set in..

A mother cannot be so self-indulged in her own personal liberties and in the process disregard the co-equal liberties of the living person in a conceived fetus..if a mother is so conscious about her so-called personal freedoms, she should be equally aware of the responsibilities that go with them..among which is to respect and honor another's life..

Abortion is murder..And murder must be stopped at all cost and at all levels..

A fetus is the most vulnerable human. At this point in life the baby is weak, defenseless, and growing. Regardless of what the baby looks like, can or can't do, the growing baby is fully human in ways a pea sprout or an alligator embryo can never be. For all those who speak out against injustice in the world, who will speak for those who cannot? The acceptance of abortion on demand is the great evil of our time.

no it's not murder, in my religion islam it is considered a sin but not considered murder
i think that people must have a really good excuse to think of terminating a pregnancy, i pray to God that i'm never in a similar situation.
thinking of the ectopic pregnancy that ended in the death of the mother in nicaragua , i believe that a woman should get a chance to terminate pregnancy safely at least when it harms her health let alone threaten her life, also if she was raped she shouldn't be forced to go through with the pregnancy.
i would rather live where a woman can get an abortion without facing jail or death due to an infection or a hemorrage . i also think that contraceptives as well as the morning after tablets are there to be used and are much better than getting an abortion which is a sin in my belief . i feel bad enough imagining it because i know that as soon as one of us is pregnant and sees the ultrasound pic of a fetus with a heartbeat we feel the love for our children and many men feel the same, it's only normal to value the lives of our children and want the best for them even if they weren't born yet. some are not so lucky and i sure don't want to be in their shoes.

Murder is the illegal killing of a human being with malice aforethought. For it to be murder, a fetus would have to be considered a human being.

Personally, I don't like abortion and I think it should be outlawed past the first trimester whatever the circumstances of conception, for reasons other than the mother's health. I think the woman makes her choice when she chooses to have sex. In the interests of "choice," however, three months is adequate time for a woman to discover she's pregnant, forced or consenting, and to do something about it. Adoption is a viable solution to "unwanted" children.

It's not a popular opinion, but it is my own.

Abortion is NOT "murder", no matter what any uneducated idiot tries to claim otherwise. In the first trimester, the FETUS is a CLUMP OF CELLS, it has NO BRAIN or ORGANS. Therefore it is NOT "alive".

UNNECESSARY late term abortion is NEVER performed. Late term abortion is ONLY performed if the mother's life is in danger, or the fetus' life is in danger. i.e. it won't survive long outside the womb, or it's already dead.

Ectopic Pregnancy is LETHAL to ALL females, women should NOT die unnecessarily because Pro-Fetus idiots want all fetus' to be born. An Ectopic Pregnancy WON'T produce a healthy LIVING child after 9 months of gestation. An Ectopic Pregnancy will KILL the mother WAY BEFORE the 9 month mark. The definition of an Ectopic Pregnancy is this: An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes. This means the embryo will not be able to develop into a baby as the fallopian tube is not large enough to support the growing embryo, which can be devastating to the pregnant woman.

There is ZERO SCIENTIFIC evidence to PROVE that abortion is "murder". Pro-Fetus idiots have NO leg to stand on in this. They just want to take away pregnant women's' rights in favour of a parasitic clump of cells that haven't developed into a human life yet. They put themselves in the "morally superior" section and quote their backwards religion as "evidence", and yet, religion has NO place in REALITY.

My half sister had a beautiful baby boy two years ago, but complications arised in the later stage of her pregnancy. They told her that the fetus wasn't properly developed, that he had heart problems. The doctors said that she should abort the pregnancy, but she refused, as is her RIGHT, and gave birth to a baby boy. The boy was born with FOUR holes in his heart, and lived for three hours. He was in pain and didn't even wake up from the sedatives they gave him while he lived. It was a very emotional and traumatising time for my sister and her husband, they cherish those three hours, but that memory is tainted because they fell guilty for putting their child through severe pain just so they could have a few selfish moments with their baby boy. To this day, my sister regrets not getting an abortion.

@Pro-Lifers, don't you dare come preaching to me about your "correct morals", I know you're full of sh*t

@Pro-Life men, NO UTERUS, NOT YOUR DECISION
@Pro-Life females, NOT YOUR UTERUS, NOT YOUR DECISION

I only disagree with UNNECESSARY late term abortion, which is NEVER performed in clinics like Planned Parenthood anyway. I know it's most likely performed in back-alley "clinics" in third world countries. Which goes to show that what we actually need is REAL Sex Ed, FREE Contraception, and ACTUAL laws to prevent abortion from being banned in the first place.
