They seem to claim that Jesus will cure all you blues? So basically they want you to not focus on yourself, but still have self-esteem problems dealing with family/friends/coworkers and just praise the Lord?

Jesus doesn't say you'll live a blueless life, just that He'll be with you. If you want to feel better try helping someone else. I'm not saying this is the cure for clinical depression, but it'll help your self-esteem. It will also help to praise God when you're down.

I don't know what "the church" does, but the church I attend is all about helping us learn to accept our sacred worth by realizing our value is given to us by God, not others.

Once we accept this, then dealing honestly and lovingly with the people around us becomes so much easier.

Then you "just praise the Lord."

P.S. If your church (and I'm assuming you go or went to one, or else your question would have no personal value for you) does not express God's redemptive love for you, then leave and find another one. Quickly!!

God is perfect....you are made in the image of God - perfect....you have a mission from God to do here on earth which God supplied you with all the abilities it takes....

now if you just sit by yourself and think about yourself...which is normal....then you are going to find things about yourself that do not compare with other people and you are going to develope self-esteem problems and live the typical miserable life because you didn't start with the truth

My congregation has never lifted a finger to help me in my dilemmas. I believe in God and his son, Jesus, but the make up of my congregation are a bunch of hypocrites. This is the worst kingdom hall I have ever been to. Why, I cannot tell the difference between my congregation goers and the general (immoral) folks in my community. It needs to be shut down.

If you were a member of my Church you might become a narcissist unless, like others of my faith, you check yourself with certain scriptures showing the nothingness of men and women. For men and women are, in our estimation, the literal, spiritual offspring of a Heavenly Father. When they are born into mortality, they receive physical, mortal bodies. These bodies were created in God’s image (Gen. 1: 26-27). Men and women who are faithful in receiving the necessary ordinances, keeping their covenants, and obeying God’s commands will enter into their exaltation and become as God.

Question: What is man, that thou art mindful of him? Ps. 8: 4-5

Answer: Ye are gods and all of you are children of the Most High, Ps. 82: 6.

We have the potential to become like Heavenly Father.

Question: Are you a crazy, arrogant, son of a gun to think that?

Answer: Read this scriptures and you be the judge. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father, Matt. 5: 48 (3 Ne. 12: 48). Is it not written in your law that ye are gods? John 10: 34 (D&C 76: 58). We may become heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, Rom. 8: 17. Thou art a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ, Gal. 4: 7. When he shall appear, we shall be like him, 1 Jn. 3: 2. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me on my throne, Rev. 3: 21.

But temper the above scriptures with some like these:

Helaman 12:7 "O how great is the nothingness of the children of men; yea, even they are less than the dust of the earth."

Dan 4:35 "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing:..."

1 Pet. 5: 5 "be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud."

D&C 112:10 "Be thou humble."

Rom. 3: 10 "There is none righteous, no, not one."

Rom. 3: 23 "all have sinned, and come short of the glory."

Because of that last scripture we NEED Jesus Christ. Through Him we might attain eternal life. But without Christ we are hopeless.

“After all our obedience and good works, we cannot be saved from the effect of our sins without the grace extended by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.”—Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Because if you believe in yourself you'll end up leaving the church when you understand it's not good for you.

My church does...talk to your pastor about it, pray about or perhaps start up a fellowship that addresses it. God will use you to do good things.

The church wants us to live and work for others, to pray, and to work, work, work.. Man was born to work and serve others.
