It is a psychological need. Usually people who have an addiction to sex, or nymphomaniac, it's because of a need that didn't happen as a child. Or, something that happened as a child that wasn't supposed to. For example, if a daughter grows up without a father, she could be compelled to "be" with a man for the moments of intimacy she receives, sort of like making up for the lack of such as a child. Vice versa with males.

Also for example, if a daughter or son is sexually abused as a child, they could grow up feeling this is the only way someone will notice them, and again be compelled to "be" with someone for the intimacy.

It is part of our carnal nature as the animal known as man. Sex is unfortunately seen by the religious right as a means only for use in procreation.

Sex is beautiful. It is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest, which is why it is like a smorgusboard of adventure. There is neither a right way or a wrong way to enjoy it. It is what each individual is comfortable with.

It's an addiction, just like any other addiction, only it's basically a mental and emotional one, rather than a physical one like heroin or alcohol. It becomes a compulsion that the person loses control of. Either they don't realize there's something wrong with their behavior or they suspect there is but are so addicted that they cannot stop themselves because the compulsion is too powerful.

Because as with any thing that is pleasurable - a person can psychologically begin to rely on it as a coping mechanism. Anything can become addictive if not done in moderation. There also is a chemical componant.

They don't need it. It is their way of feeling loved and wanted. Often times people feel this is the way for them to get positive attention. If you look into their background you may find they were sexually abused. They are looking for love the only way they know how.

Because they either love it or have low self esteem and are looking for love but wont find it having sex because if you put out to all and sundry the self respect is null and void

to me it's a biological need, just as much as eating, sleeping,
breathing. it's an animal instinct, and all animals do it.
some (humans) with more passion than others.
hope that helps.
good luck to ya

Endorphins - just like exercise, food, and dope. People can get addicted to anything that makes them feel good.
