That's the big question - and sadly, we really can't know in this present age.
I know SOME things though, first God is Love, and the Greek word for Love ("Agape") is NOT the antonym of "hate", but rather it is the antonym of "selfishness" - "Universal, unconcerned benevolence".
I also know that God is all powerful and COULD stop the violence.
I have to conclude that even though WE don't understand the mind of God, He DOES allow things for a reason.
One thing I must point out, however, is that Sin is the underlying cause of ALL bad things that happen to people, and until we truly see sin for the wickedness that it is, we will continue to sin.
Sin is so wicked, that the ONLY thing (from God's Infinite perspective) that can stop it was the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, as a VOLUNTARY sin offering.
Sin is the ultimate cause of sickness and disease, and every genetically caused problem, as well. In fact, the Bible says that all of creation groans under the weight of Sin!
I know that even though I don't have the answer, when I get to heaven, ALL will be revealed, and everyone who is there will marvel at the wisdom, love, and kindness along with His grace and mercy, in every decision He has made.
Now, I have a question for you - considering that sin IS the ultimate cause of every bad thing that happens, are you part of the solution (that is to say, have you repented of your sinful lifestyle and turned to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing and a new heart)? Or are you still part of the problem, living a lifestyle of self-centered selfishness, rebelling against God's rightful authority, and committing high treason against Him?

God has perfect timing, and tho many times it may not seem like it, he has a plan.
Everything that happens in your life, Christian or no, he has planned it.
Say god takes the life of a innocent child. He has a plan, he has a reason. We may never know what it is, but there's a reason.
Many times God puts pain in out lifes to draw us closer to Him, to show us we need Him.
And if it's any comfort to you, all children who don't yet know right from wrong go to heaven. Weither they come from Christian homes or not.
Now baptisim is also something I want to cover quick.
Babies who pass on go to heaven. God takes them to Him. Even if they are not baptised.
Baptisim should be a choice. Never once in the Bible is there mention of a baby baptisim.
Jesus was baptised as a man by John.
God could easily send an angel, He could easily step in and save a life, but if it not be His will, He won't.

It's really sad when bad things happen to babies and small children. But you and I can't blame no one really. It is just reality. Bad things happen all the time. Women get beat, raped, and verbally abused. Children get beat, raped, molested, and verbally abused. Old people get robbed etc... It is just the world we live in. And if you go by the Bible it didn't take long for the first murder did it? But you can't blame God! We are living in hell here the only thing missing is the fire. But he may have bigger plans for them. He may have been protecting them from something we don't know about! Yea some parents have babies that are addicted to drugs like crack and alcohol. And they were robbed by us as parents. We don't live in a fairy tale world here it's real life no cartoon. But in heaven there is no tears no pain no sickness no death!

Sure, but usually the good and bad things that happen are a result of the use of somebody's free will. Sometimes things happen that are beyond anyone's control, but these are things that could happen to everyone.
The idea of what's "Fair" is based largely on Human opinion and their specific culture. We no longer think Slavery is fair, right? For mankind, "Fair" is relative. You can not expect an omnipotent and eternal God to abide by our ever changing and temporary ideas of "Fair". We can't even make up our minds on whether Abortion is fair...

Because everything is a cause and effect in life. The death of an infant is an experience that affects many and the result of that makes many realize that life is short.. learn to appreciate.. and sometimes just spending that short time with that little angel makes a difference. its hard to understand but things happen for a reason.

Satan is in charge of the world....God allows free choice....so if a crack baby is born - is that God's fault? or free choice of the mother....Satan is in charge of death, illness and disease....ask the Destroyer why he cripples little babies...study the Bible and stop listening to drivel that is not Biblical

Sin is a bad thing, and it corrupts EVERYTHING it touches. It's not that the kids are bad, but Sin even affects the innocent.
This is one of the reasons God hates Sin so much

He doesn't. Bad things happen at random to most people. No one, including babies, is chosen by God for misfortune.

My question is not about death. Its about a baby that is born perfect but gets sick and is disabled the rest of thier lives, It would be better if thier mind completely gone. Its not. They see each and every day of their life that they are not the same as theor borthers and sisters and wonders why. the guilt that plages all the family memebers is enourmous. As they grow older the family then feels more gulit when there is no one to take care of them. Do they put them in a home?? At that afe is would devaste all concerned.

There is a Spanish Christian tradition that says God takes most people when they are ready--most worthy.
