I was told that the government is refusing to give prosthetics to individuals who have lost limbs because of the cost.

It was ALLEGEDLY on the news........is this true of our government (the USA)?

I know the Bush administration shut down the Army's prosthetics research lab because of VA budget cuts and are making soldiers wear flimsy temporary limbs for many times their useful life (even after they're worn out and broken.)

Maybe that's what it's referring to.

I hope not. They have done some extensive R&D into new prosthetics these days. I was stationed around the DC area and traveled to Walter Reed and Bethesda frequently. Although it is troubling to see a young person who has lost a limb, it is equally amazing to see some of the products they are coming out with to help them move on with their lives.

No they are not refusing based on cost; there is a waiting period because of the time to fit and manufacture. The advances in medical care for the military results in a lot more wounded then previously was true-more died because of wounds that they now survive. This has caused a back order of certain things and over loaded services.

It's probably some story out of context, like maybe they won't pay for a particularly expensive type of prosthetics. It would be political suicide to deny a prosthetics to somebody wounded while fighting the war.

I have not heard that, and I find it highly doubtful that it is true. HIGHLY doubtful. I also looked online for a story to support the claim and could not find one.
