Since you've had them for 10 years then it'll take quite a while for them to fill in- they will probably never fill in completely and you'll always be able to see the holes.
Keep the area clean with saline solution and hopefully it will begin closing.

Yup, that's an infection. It's not too bad, it could be alot worse. Don't take the barbel out...that's the worst thing that you can do for an infected piercing. Keep it clean with two saline soaks a day (1/3tsp sea salt to 1 cup boiled and cooled water) and the infection should clear up in a week or so. Do a saline soak in the morning for 5-10 minutes using a cotton ball. Then rinse off in the shower or whatever, dry the piercing with some guaze (never a towel or other dirty item) and try not to wear anything that won't let it breathe. Don't touch it, especially not with dirty hands and try not to bump it. Do another saline soak before bed and avoid using any creams, ointments, alcohol based products, Biotene, ear piercing and other aftercare sprays, swabs, Betadie or other products on it. Goodluck! If the infection hasn't cleared after a week of cleaning, go back to your piercer.

i took mine out with my 1st and it has been 6 years now. i was left with a stretched out hole and a wonderful little stretch mark right on the hole that never went away- even though my other stretch marks did go away. my advice would be to just keep it moisturized to hopefully prevent any stretch marks.
It is not so bad though, i still wear bikinis and nobody notices, just me. :)
good luck!

same thing happened to my daughter. she regrets the piercings now. just remember that as a parent it is your job to protect your kids from things they will regret even if they don't understand at the time.

that scar stuff they sell at the drug store works pretty well, but you're probably right, they are there forever.

They are there for life. Mine are too, so don't feel bad. It was fun while it lasted.
