alan: Believing in a deity or deities and subscribing to a religion are two entirely different things. There are many non-theistic religions.

Good answers from both theists and non-theists. Gonna' have to do this democratically.

Thanks to all responders.

No, it's because we couldn't possibly be farther from their viewpoint. Atheists and theists are so opposite, we both fascinate each other.

Both base their positions on a total lack of evidence. Opposing beliefs founded on the same lack of empirical evidence will naturally gravitate toward each other as a way to test the strength of their arguments. Both are looking for something tangible to further the argument.

This happens in science all the time, but science is constructed to generate evidence. When that happens the opposing sides move toward each other until a consensus forms.

Isn't it great that that will never happen with you two? There will never be a shred of evidence either way and you'll be able to argue FOREVER.

Did you know that there is another way for both of you?

I think that there's a great dialogue here between the two groups, and it helps to promote healthy debate.
That said, for every well-placed question, there are four from stirrers from either side.
Personally, I find the answers from both sides fascinating, although there is some obvious rabid anger about.
I'll admit I've been known to get angry, but seriously, there are some dumb arguments.

Like it or not I think the main fascination is the result of hoping to reveal the truth of our faith to atheists. I read an answer that made me feel very sad. One person mentioned she felt that Christians thought her soul was worthless. On the contrary, for every true believer, the soul of an atheist is incredibly valuable. Our sincerest hope is that it is preserved for an eternity through the grace of God. I hope you are not offended because this is how I feel. You are all valuable and worth saving. I learned this from my Bible.
'wins', not necessarily, saves from an eternity of hopeless nothingness, maybe. But the thing is, none of us here have the power to save. Only God alone can and this is the truth we hope to share.

i thinks its more curiosity as to what goes through their heads when they answer questions about religion. some of the answers i see from atheists are completely stupid, but then again so are some theists answers. the thing that really annoys me is when atheists answer a question about religion directed at other religious people, with "there is no God".

Reality check. Since the category is religion and spirituality one wonders what an atheist is doing here unless they have a fascination with theists.

There's truth in what you say when you define religion and spirituality in the broadest sense. However the most common definitions of both words contain references to deities or the supernatural. I actually tried to use the same logic to point out that atheism is in fact a religion in a broad sense but was berated for doing so. Perhaps you're one of the more open-minded atheists who accepts atheism as a religion? Good for you (I mean that sincerely).

First answer is right. I'm completely fascinated by theists because I feel so disconnected from their world view. I imagine they feel the same way about us.
