Because you don't fight against something you know doesn't exist. Otherwise you would be wasting your time. What intellectual wants to waste his time.

1. Most of us on Y!A on from the Western world. Christianity is big in the Western world.
2. Christianity is the largest religion.
3. Depending on their upbringing most atheists know the most about Christianity.
4. In some ways it's the most immediate threat, but in many ways Islam is more threatening. There a little bit harder to find, but you can find atheists from Muslim backgrounds or atheists knowledgeable of Islam. Ayaan Hirsi Ali (author of Infidel) is an example.
If you lived in other places of the world you would notice atheists who "specialize" in whatever the local religion is, I'd bet. India has a lot of atheists who know their way around Hinduism forwards and backwards and combat superstitious and pseudoscientific elements of Hinduism.

Well, personally, I live in the U.S., where PROFESSED Christians are the majority and are trying to exert their influence on laws and politics, etc.
So yes, I concentrate on them, because they are the main threat to reason and obstacle to progress AROUND HERE.
If I lived in, say, Egypt, I would concentrate on Islam. If I lived in Israel, I'd concentrate on Judaism. If in India, on Hinduism.
If I would talk too much about religious nuts in other countries, like the people who can't say enough bad things about Muslims, I would run the risk of feeding into the Christian propaganda to justify the U.S. oil grabs at the root of the attacks on the Middle East.
That's a risk I won't take.
Of course, as someone who was raised by a Jewish mother and a Christian father, I have a certain advantage as an atheist in attacking Judaism - I am less likely to be called "anti-Semitic." I DO use that advantage sometimes.

I think it is. Christianity makes a special claim to be the only true way to God. Jesus made it very clear that HE was the way, the truth, and the life, NO man comes to the Father unless through him. NOONE. Other religions wimp out and say, oh, it's okay if you are this or that - we are all going to end up in heaven some day unless you are a Buddist or Hindu who do not believe in a heaven. Christianity also probably threatens athiests as it is the only religion that says that if they do not worship their creator and repent of their ways, God will not only not let them into heaven but has also created an eternal hell for their disobedience. Everyone is an eternal being - will live forever one way or the other. I choose God's way. This life is short but eternity is forever. And besides, God has always been good to me and loves me. Not a bad deal.

i'm no longer an atheist, yet can not withstand announcing that atheists do no longer realize that they are quite no longer scuffling with with the messenger, however the Sender of the message. they do no longer realize that on the tip of their organic existence there's a judgement. they do no longer seem to be without ideals - quite all of them have self belief that the 'now' is all there is, and that they might talk and do as they want with none recourse; lots comparable to in historical circumstances beforehand of the super Flood. the reason they're continuously in attack mode is that attack is to them the main suitable kind od defence. the fact of this matter even with the fact it is that there will be no defence of argument interior the court docket of God - there will be no risk then to argue in any respect! Atheists don't comprehend or settle for the relationship that genuine Christians have with their loving Saviour. all of them think of that's in uncomplicated terms guy-progressed faith (of which there are certainly many). They lack the flexibility to parent the adaptation between faith and relationship with God. They often accuse Christians of 'parroting' a pretend doctrine; yet they themselves have a doctrine of denial which they consistently parrot. they're extra to be pitied than blamed - they do no longer see the easy that shines because of the fact they choose the darkness. None of what i've got pronounced right that's with the reason to mock the atheist - extra to easily by some compassion in direction of their state, throw meaning-finished reason upon their predicament. Atheists do convert to Christ, and 'nominal' Christians do convert to Atheism. it is by no ability over till it is over even with the undeniable fact that, and there is time to be sure the easy of Christ - with any luck, some might desire to even see even by this communicate. In precis, Atheists quite often would be too mushy interior their wall of defence that they have progressively progressed around their minds to threat stepping exterior even for a minute. Atheism is actual actually a 'concern circle'.

I'll go against any religion, but I tend to say more about Christianity, as there seem to be a lot of Christianity related questions here on Yahoo! Answers, and it's what I'm most familiar with.

It is a combination of three things:
1)Many atheists were raised as Christians
2)Christians are the religious majority
3)Generally speaking, Christians are the most aggressive about evangelizing (therefore the most offensive to atheists).

Well I'm a heathen, not that you care, but I tend to focus on kristjans and muslims because they believe other religions are illegitimate and tend to try to shape their cultures and societies to reflect that.
For instance, as a heathen, I see marraige as a legal contranct and do not care what sexes or how many people are involved.
My rights are not represented in a kristjan government, and you do not care because you think I am illegitimate. You think my soul is worthless and bound for hell.
This only leads to more taking of my rights as an individual. That is why I am angry.

Biggest threat? More like the biggest target.
When a religion's followers argue that instead of teaching science such as theories of evolution, the idea that human beings magically popped into existence should be taught instead, that's bound to raise some red flags among people who aren't in favor of such a change in the curriculum their tax dollars are funding.

Because Christians dominate my country.
Because Christians try and legislate their superstitious nonsense.
Because I've never had a Buddhist knock on my door and tell me I'm going to come back as a dung beetle.
Anyway, I do criticize other religions besides Christianity. It's just that the majority of questions on here come from Christians.
Why do you have a persecution complex?
