Saw a large family directly in front of me last night, obviously illegal aliens because they could not speak English and looked unkempt. They bought over $180 worth of groceries and paid $120 of it in food stamps. How in the H#LL is this LEGAL!?!?

Superchee...they were talking to the cashier in very poor English...like they didn't know what they were talking about to begin with. And if they WERE immigrants, then they needed to show two things which were missing in their case:

1. An ability to communicate with the language used in the US which IS English. (what are all our laws in?)

2. An inability to provide for themselves and their families. This is a prerequisite to becoming a US citizen. No, I didn't say RICH, I said ABILITY to be self sufficient.

Stolen SS number and phony I.D. and you can get anything you want. They are pro's at working the system, I think it's taught before they even enter.

If they were getting free stuff and illegal, I would check with the state about that, to know the law. I have heard from people in the know that when some from other countries hit New York they go to the "money store", where they are given cash. go figure. On the other hand Clinton did increase legal imigration up to 2.5 million a year (now back to one million and for a different reason). then againthey could be legal. there are so many people from so many places that have not taken the time to learn. Although my friends wife is fro Brazil and she is taking classes.

Remember that of the 9 million visas we issue each year, over a third stay and hide out when it expires and this has been going on for by guys two terms! So just on that we could have up to 40+ millin hiding out. Wonder why the Feds don't mention that t the media. I bet you Lou Dobbs will bring it up soon.

If you really want to know just holler out ICE! Naw. Take care.

The others are right. Anchor babies.... because the child is born here, the child is considered a US citizen and if that child is "in need", then the family gets access to the US welfare, food stamps, low income housing, everything, and it's all legal. That is part of the reason why we need to amend that part of the Constitution to make it so that babies born here can only be considered automatic citizens IF one or both of the parents is already a citizen.

A second reason is stolen or falsified documents. That is the reason why it should be MANDATORY for state and local aid offices to access the federal database to confirm that the person applying for aid is the person they say they are.

As others have said. Because we pervert the true intent of the 14th amendment,
http://www.cairco.org/articles/art2005dec17b.html
the complicit US government bestows US citizenship on anyone that can make it across the border and drop anchor. In essence, the Government is paying illegal aliens to.....

Many will tell you they can't,since they cannot show prrof of citizenship etc. So if that is true, why is it that every time some state tries to pass a law that specifically states "Illegal Immigrants may not have access to public assistance" there are groups that file lawsuits to keep the law from going into effect?

The fact is that Illegals can access many forms of assistance, because in many places like LA(sanctuary city),Houston (sanctuary city) and others, those at those offices either will not,or cannot inquire about your citizenship status.

Because the government and all the cronies up there could care less about the real citizens of this country. I tried to get food stamps after my husband and I lost our jobs several years back. I was fired a week after I took maternity leave because my employer claimed that I quit. I went through all the hoops, filed all the correct paper work to take my leave and handed all my doctor notes into the correct person only to find out after the baby was born that I was not eligable for my leave pay and was not an employee. So I went to a lawyer. A few months after this my husband's company did a major lay-off and he was one that was hit. We had housepayments pile up and bills anda new baby. We qualified for the state insurance for our son because we lost ours through his job and there was no way we could afford COBRA. We were told we didnt qualify for food stamps because we owned our home and had too many cars ( An 89 Chevy Camero and and 88 Chevy Truck). It was rediculous. We managed to get by. We decided to try to go back to school. We sold our home bought a travel trailer and lived in it for two years so we could get our degrees. Even living in the travel trailer and qualifying for 100% tuition paid for by our pell grant did not qualify us for food stamps. We needed them. We worked all types of odd jobs with crazy hours trying to support ourselves and be able to go to school. When a family of three goes from making $70,000 to $10,000 dollars for a year and two in that family were students cannot qualify for food stamps in this country there is a problem. However, any Jose or Pedro that jumps the border and has no rights to any assistance in this country can qualify there is a problem. I am just glad that we arent in that situation where we need the assistance any longer.

Yes it's true these law breakers are able to mooch off of our hard earned tax dollars courtesy of all the little anchor babies they are able to do bring in to this wonderful world. The one talent all these illegals seem to have mastered is how to reproduce!

* It is not a myth, if illegal aliens have babies here then their babies are citizens of this country unfortunately and there by can't be turned down for government handouts.

Not knowing for sure that these people were, in fact, illegal aliens, presents other interesting subjects.
I happen to know several LEGAL Americans, of Mexican heritage whose work keeps them looking unkempt, however they are some of the most honest of people.
I also grew up, in South Texas, where a school mate's parents regularly spoke German, while another's spoke French (Cajon) and ALL of the families on our ranch & farming operation spoke Spanish. When I am in the midst of Spanish speaking families, I often speak Spanish.
Am I an American? Yes, 14th generation of German / French / American Indian heritage, 5th generation Texan, with 2 honorable discharges from the US Army (and DAMNED WELL PROUD of both of them), and I learned in the US Army, that ALL humans bleed red blood.
Were they intitled to the food stamps? That question should be asked of the government agency that 'issued those food stamps' .
No one on yahate can provide you with the true, necessary information.

A number of different ways.

It is supposed to be based upon legal immigration that the USDA determines eligibility and provides food stamps; however, there are methods in which illegal immigrants have circumvented the policies without even needing a false SSN. And in 2004 there was actually a program signed by Bush with the Mexican gov't's cooperation.

Google the following: "Food Stamps in Four Hours" and then
Search the LA Times Archives for information from those articles. Alternatively, you can search the "wayback machine" for articles that were once on the internet.

Human trafficking victims and anchor babies are examples.

Another more recent example is through television ads being run on Spanish-language networks. Google the "Food Stamps in Four hours" program sponsored by the USDA and Mexican Embassy.

Ads on one network, Univision, based in Los Angeles, are stating that "immigrants" need not worry about their "status" and are encouraged to apply. States are evidently barred (by the federal Privacy Act) from denying an applicant any benefits if the applicant refuses to provide a social security number.

It should be noted that the Department of Health and Human Services’s refugee benefits and services programs and the Department of Justice’s victim assistance funds are available to alien trafficking victims who are trafficked internationally into the United States, as well as to alien victims who are trafficked internally, but not to U.S. citizen victims of trafficking. page 7 of the US Dept of Justice article above

"Though it goes against the conventional wisdom of anti-illegal immigration supporters, those who enroll the poor in the federal food stamp program say they've struggled for years to get immigrant Latino families signed up.

Now a Spanish-language news report and television ad campaign have spurred thousands of immigrants in Orange County over the last several weeks to contact a nonprofit organization that offers a Spanish-language class called "Food Stamps in Four Hours." [offered at the El Modena Community Center in Orange]

..."They won't come on their own," said Jerry Sanders, food bank manager of the nonprofit Community Action Partnership of Orange County in Garden Grove.

...A Los Angeles County Department of Social Services task force is looking at ways to find eligible families to enroll. County workers have signed up families at food banks with only minor success.

...In 2004, Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service and the Mexican Embassy agreed to jointly disseminate brochures and create the public service announcements.

The agreement led Mexican Consul Luis Miguel Ortiz Haro to tout the food stamp program on Univision's KMEX Channel 34 six weeks ago. The newscast included the partnership's phone number. More than 1,200 people called the partnership in the following days, Sanders said.

Then, two weeks ago, the Department of Agriculture [lead by illegal immigration supporter Mike Johanns] began to air a monthlong series of ads on Spanish-language television in Southern California and three other markets in the U.S.

...In Orange County, several of those attending a recent "Food Stamps in Four Hours" class said they were convinced it was legitimate when they saw Ortiz Haro on television.

[The Mexican consul said on TV:] "This program is not welfare. It won't affect your immigration status... The program is a right, and if we don't use it, it's a privilege that will pass you by."

Illegal aliens cannot get food stamps. PERIOD...That is a myth.. Of course they can.Example--Maine’s license residency issue took a sharp political turn Thursday as House Republicans expressed shock over a report that calls for tighter rules but stops short of saying illegal aliens should be prevented from getting driver’s licenses.

"At a time when our country is at war with Islamic extremists, it is absurd to give licenses to illegal aliens," said House Minority Leader Josh Tardy of Newport. "These people could be anybody. But with an official license, they can board flights, enter government buildings, collect welfare and probably even vote.""Under the law, it is a federal crime to aid, abet or assist illegal aliens to remain in the United States," Tardy said in a statement. "When you give them driver’s licenses, welfare, subsidized housing, free medical care and protected status, it’s clear that you are aiding them in remaining in our country."
