Its a muscle cramp. Muscles most commonly cramp because of an imbalance in the electrolytes. Imbalances develop when a muscle is over used, when a person is dehydrated, or when calcium, magnesium, and potassium are imbalanced. The best thing to do is to take a magnesium supplement several times a day, drink plenty of fluids, and massage & stretch the foot when the cramp lets up.

You are probably dehydrated. Happens to me. Sometimes it's the calf muscle, sometimes it's the quad. Get more fluids.
