Witchvox.com has a great database to find Wiccans and Pagans in your area. If you're going to study on your own, I would suggest books over websites. The Internet is full of garbage when it comes to Wicca. Seriously, I run a site, but I'd prefer people not see my stuff if it means they don't get sucked into the 95% of garbage that's out there. While books also vary hugely in quality, there is a much larger chance of getting good info from a book.
Personally, I am generally against classes for pay. Most of them do not teach anything more than what is in a standard Wicca 101 book.

You can likely find shops in your area on:
http://www.witchvox.com/
This is my favorite site for basic Wicca info:
http://www.bewitchingways.com/main.htm
Also, a good Wicca FAQ:
http://bluemoonwicca.org/faq.html
Nightwind sounds like she knows what she's talking about too. :)

I agree with most of the answers so far.
Go to witchvox, as prarie has directed.
I also second the vote to stay away from "the church and school of Wicca" and also add "witchschool" to that.
Also, don't pay. Find free classes, do not pay.

This is the page you need to go to at Witchvox in order to access the Witches of the World networking system:
http://www.witchvox.com/xvn.html
Just use the pull-down menus on the left to find individuals, groups, events, and shops in your area.
Best of luck to you on your path.
