Trust - based not on absence of reason (or lack of logic and intellegence - despite the many posts to the contrary) - but on past experience and strength of evidence. I have "faith" that this chair I'm sitting in is gonna keep supporting me. I have faith the room will be illuminated when I flip the switch - and I have faith that God is and will keep the promises He has made.

"Faith" differs from belief.
Faith will obey the commands of God, without knowing Why or How Come.
For instance, Jesus says not to commit adultery (Just an example).
Faith will not commit adultery even when every fiber of your being wants to and tells you there is nothing wrong with it.
Faith means following the teachings of our Lord applying them to our own lives, not hitting other people over the head with what THEYshould do.
In fact, the N.T. states something to the effect that first you do the will of God, THEN you will understand. Not vice versa.

Hebrews 11:1 -
Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.

Believing in something in the absence of evidence, I think. That's just off the top of my head, but it seem right. It at least must encompass part of what faith is. Like most English words, there are so many different meanings, it makes simple definitions tough without an entire legal document of exceptions to back it up.

Faith is what you believe .(faith is usually an "if - then" proposition.)
We show you, in How Faith Works, that in the advance information (faith) we get from God, there are thing(s) for us to do. "If" we do them, "then" God will do what He declared in our advance (faith) information. For instance, God showed Noah that he would "save his house" provided he built the ark according to the advance faith warning. To put it differently, Noah would not have saved his house had he not acted upon the faith information he received from God. Acting upon our faith information is called "believe" in the Bible.
Again, most of the faith teachings, word of faith teachings, Christian faith teachings, faith and works teachings and faith in God teachings and movements, fail to clearly see the "if - then" aspect. Their systems are bankrupt to the extent they leave out this vital element. How Faith Works changes all this. It supplies faith building answers to the above problems

for me it is believing something
like i believe the sun will come up tomorrow.
i can't be sure, i have no proof, but because of my experience i have faith.
like beliveing that someting is true without actually seeing it.
now sometimes i see/hear it and still don't believe it like what ingredeients they put in food or 'non toxic' labels on toys that can be a lie.
my life's expereince tells me what it is reasonable to put faith in. really i have faith my car will start when i go outside today.
i have had crappy cars and didn't have that faith in them.

The starting point of faith is believing that God is who He says He is. The ending point of faith is believing that God will fulfil his promises to mankind.
