I'm making a crockpot recipe, and it said 8 hours, but I thought it said 6 so I started it later.. it's supposed to be on "low" the whole time, but I was wondering if people who are more experienced with crockpots than I am knew whether it would be okay to turn it to "high" for a couple hours to shave off time? I'll include the recipe
.
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 lbs sweet italian sausage, meat pushed out of casings
1 medium onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 14.5 oz can cannellii beans, drained
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tea black pepper
1 14.5 oz can chiken broth
1 head escarole, washed and chopped into bite-sized pieces
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1. In lg. skillet, med heat, warm oil; add sausage and onions; cook until brown and onions soft, about 7 min. Drain fat.
2. Add mixture to the slow cooker crock, then add other ingredients except escarole and Parm. Mix till tomato paste dissolves.
3. Cover, cook on low for 7 hrs. Add chopped escarole, stir and cook 1 hr. Top w/cheese.

I usually start the crockpot on high for a couple hours and then let it simmer all day. It won't hurt anything to turn it up for awhile if you got a late start. The recipe sounds good!

Sure, a couple of hours on HIGH in the beginning of the cooking time will simply just get all of the ingredients warmed up faster. That will save you cooking time, and net the same results.

Thanks for the recipe!

Sure, you can always adjust the temp during the cooking time. Let it cook for 30min to 1 hr of the 6hrs on high and it will be just fine. By the way, I try to cook everything on low because it comes out better. I’ve noticed that for beef and soups- it can cook for 2-3 hours longer on low and still come out just fine.
