Yes cats do sense human emotion. Cats are sensitive to changes in human emotions, behavior and routine. If you are upset, your cat will respond to this and may become anxious, depressed, agitated or physically unwell.
Cat are amazing. All my 4 cats have an astonishing accuracy "clock". welcoming my husband home from work, my boys back from school at the same time every day.
They are truly amazing animals.

Some animals are more intuitive than others. It is usually the ones with a calm demeanor that have this trait. I have three cats, and only one will do this when I'm upset. I've always felt he'd be a good therapy cat for seniors and those rehabilitating from illness.

Yes animals can sense emotions. My cats know when I'm sad or sick. Animals are so great! They just want to love you and for you to feel better when you're sick. I had a poodle when I was a baby and she laid under my crib and every time I cried she would run and bark at my parents to come and get me. lol

Cats and dogs have really good senses and comunicate with each other through their body instead of through a spoken language like humans. So they can sense human's emotions really easily.
That's why a dog will attack if he senses a person's fear. In his mind a person's fear=danger to him.
My cat trys to cheer me up when I am down too. She also licks my tears, but I think that she just likes the salt. lol.

yea. i heard it on t.v on discovery channel once. its really cool. animals can like sense when a human is sad and stuff and does things like what your cat did to you.

Mine does the same! Everytime I cry, she comes up and lays with me and purs really loud. But any other time I'm happy and fine, she doesn't do it. It's kinda weird, but it's so cute! and i love it!

I don't think it can be scientifically proved...
but I definitely believe they do. Both my cat & dog tend to cuddle with me when I'm upset.

My furbabies lay in the bed with me when i'm sick, but they did watch that news segment a few months ago about the cat who predicted death, so who knows what they might be implying?
