Has anyone made Pesto Sauce with walnuts or other nuts??

Pesto with walnuts is fine. Some commercially prepared pestos even use wallnuts.

Yes, pine nuts come from pine cones of a few different species of pine tree.

Littlle bottles of pine nuts are hugely expensive, but you can find inexpensive bags of pine nuts at Trader Joes and Costco. They will also be cheaper in stores that sell them in bulk bins. If you do buy a largish quantity, keep them stored in the freezer. The oils can go rancid pretty quickly at room temperature.

Yes, excellent! I agree, Pine nuts are more expensive, and yes, from Pine cones! Your pesto sauce will still be good as with pine nuts!

Yes, I have made my Pesto Sauce with chopped Almonds, when I didn't have the pine nuts (pignoli) on hand.
I'm sure the walnuts will be fine too. Buon Appetito!

I use either walnuts or pine nuts. Ethnic stores, usually middle eastern stores often carry pine nuts (and other kinds) for WAY cheaper than mainstream grocey stores.

I make pesto with different nuts all the time. I use walnuts, pecans, almonds, etc.

I also change the greens - sometimes basil, sometimes parsley, artichoke hearts, fresh arugula (yum)

Comes out nutty flavour, they sell it at your local super market, come from the pine tree.

I made a spinach-walnut pesto once. It was really good, especially with pasta and topped with feta. Mmmmmm.
