I'll let mine when he's old enough to sneak out of the house without me knowing it. Lord help him if I find out!!! Otherwise he's waiting till at least 16 and has his drivers license.

As a parent of 3 children I must say that the operational word here is "children". NO child should be let out in the dark. They do not have the maturity to make life-or-death decisions, not do they have the physical maturity to repel an animal or human attack. I started letting my children go out by themselves when they hit the teen stages, and with a fully charged cell phone.

I have four adult children. If you would have asked me this several years ago I would have said age 13 or 14. Today I would say 16 and that's ONLY with a friend or family member and a cell phone with a tracking device. I don't mean to worry you. It's just that now a day you have to be careful.....

That's a really tough question, but I would say that if it doesnt feel right, then dont second guess yourself. Be sure to take in a lot of other factors though, like if your child is with a bunch of friends, or how close they are to the house, etc.

In a familiar area, i'd say about 13. Or you can just judge off of how responsible and desciplined they are. And make sure they have a cell phone by the time you let them out in case of emergencies!

At 16-17 years old when they are adults and at that age when they get in trouble it will be on them and not on you the parent. Look ate grades too. I get straight A's so my mom doesn't care. SHe trust me. I am good girl. If you don't let them go out now thenonce they do in college they will go crazy. you have to let kids go crazy now so they can settle down once they are older and mature. TEACH THEM LESSONS!!!!!!

Do not listen to the idiot that said 2nd grade, I would say about 15 or 16, you just can not trust anyone with your children.
