You can substitute yellow onion. If your store has any other type of onion they call "sweet onion", you can substitute that too.

RE:
What's the difference between a Vidalia onion and a regular onion?
I have a recipe for Vidalia Onion Dip. I can't find them at the store. Can I substitute with yellow onion or white onion?

Yes, you can substitute with any other type on onion. Vidalia's are sweeter then other onions. One way to 'adjust' for the substitute is to chop/cut/mince (whatever your recipe calls for) your onion, and then sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar on the onions and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes. That will allow the onion to absorb the sweetness of the sugar. You can then either rinse and drain the onions or use them as they are with the sugar still on them.
Now also you can use the red onions which are milder, but not sweeter then the vidalia and would not require added sugar, and the red would also give additional color to your dish. Hope this has helped. Happy Holiday's to you.

Vidalia's are just a special type of sweet onion. You can substitute with a regular sweet onion (yellow).
Vidalias are exclusive to an area in Georgia where the sulfur content in the soil is very low. Low sulfur makes for sweeter onions.

The Vidalia Onion has a greater sugar content than the other onions you have listed. So the recipe may not come out as sweet. You can check the sweet onion link for other onions that can be substituted for Vidalia.

Vidalia onions are much sweeter than regular white onions. If you have a larger grocery store in your area, they surely have Vidalias, and they are labeled seperately. You could substitute a different type of onion, but I would definitely look for Vidalias.

Vidalia onions are a sweeter onion from Georgia. They aren't available year round and in all grocery stores. So a regular onion should be fine.

Vidalia's are sweet and taste so good. Regular yellow onions have a sharper taste but usually work well in most recipes. I would not want to use a yellow onion , but you could try a small amount see how you like it.

Vidalia onion are grown in Vidalia Georgia. They are sweeter than mot other onion because the area they grow them in has far less sulfur than most soils. That it why they are called Vidalia onions. Other than that they would just be yellow onions if you planted then in, say, New York.

Vidalia's are larger and sweeter than white and yellow onions.
They are only available for a short portion of the year, and that time has passed. however, I believe Mayan sweets are in season and they are an acceptable substitute.
Try to find any onion at your grocery store classified as "sweet" to substitute.
