According to the story there were two infamous Trees in the Garden of Eden; the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. For whatever reason God did not want Adam and Eve to have the knowledge of Good and Evil (even though He had this knowledge according to the story) so once they ate the fruit and received the knowledge of Good and Evil God then banished them from the Garden so they would not be able to eat from the Tree of Life and live forever. So the way I understand this is that they had to continually eat from this Tree to be immortal. The Genesis account is one of many which try to explain our present misery. Has anyone wondered what ever happened to the Tree of Life??? I guess it most have become extinct.

It Was a Pleasure to "Eat Food".
They didn't have to, just like it is Up In Heaven Now!
It is a Pleasure. But, don't have too, not when you Got a Glorified Body!
Thanky Jesus!
Then Adam committed High Treason---you Wouldn't Believe how it messed up things After That.
All The Way Up to The Throne Room of GOD Almighty. (Which is on Planet Heaven right now.)
Yep, messed it all up.

What exactly are you asking?
The tree of life is Christ
Tree: Note the three trees
1)Knowledge - Gen 2:9, man's ruin
2)"the Cross" - Acts 10:39, 5:30, I Peter 2:24
3)Tree of Life - man's redemption Gen 2:9,
Rev 2:7, Rev 22:2, man's regeneration
Even the angels ate manna.
"And the Lord God commanded the man saying, "Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:....."
Gen 2:16
God is reality!

I agree with you... people say horrible things about the Bible message.
Bible is not a historic book. All messages are symbols.
Adam and Eve were not people like us. They are only one being... the son of God.
Adam-Eve received food... energy... to live. In the Eden there were the possibility of receiving another energy... from the tree of knowledge and this put Edam-Eve into this world we know... We are Adam-Eve after the fall. This world is not our home... we must learn and find the way back.

I agree totally, not only with the premise but also the logic! Why try to "make it better"?
To those that ask where it is said Adam and Eve were immortal, in the bible.

first of all you are assuming that Adam and Eve did not need to eat.which is silly because GOD says what is good for food and for meat.people want to nit pick on little things so as to confuse the plain and simple truth.of course Adam and Eve ate so did the animals.think more about the big picture and what GOD has said his commandments, his promises, his guidance, his love his plan of salvation and redemption for a planet of lost sinful souls.those whom he loved so much that he did not spare his own son but let him be a sacrifice for our sins to reconcile us to him!!!! what greater love is there than this!

Maybe the answer to immortality lies in uncoded ends of of chromosomes, the telemers as well as in the fall ? Satan has away to twist things up.
I think the ate only for enjoyment, gourmet food. Pasta Alfredo perhaps.

If you do not believe why read the bible. I think you read it to make yourself feel better about dening Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself didn't talk plainly when He was here because He wanted only those who would believe to hear His voice.
The simple answer to your question is that God made everything how He wanted to make. As Paul said in Romans. "the pot does not ask the potter, Why did you make me this way?"

They were immortal as long as they ate of the tree of life that was in the garden, you see, the tree of knowledge of good and evil was not the only tree with special fruit..........
