i guess i have been living under a rock lately because i heard that there was controversy but i didnt really care. i recently learned what the big deal is all about and as a christiani i am appalled. waht was the big deal? no one protested Amazing Grace or Passion of the Christ as much as this movie and they kinda sucked. I mean im sorry but i just dont get into those movies. Fellow christians need to know that they cant just argue over every movie that goes against their beliefs. First the da vinci code and now this? please. as a christian i am telling all other christians to grow up and let people make movies and do their job.

and to those who claim i am not helping to stand up for christianity....christians CANNOT attack everything that goes against them. it is a losing battle and it just creates animosity between non believers. save your battles for the ones that count, not fairytalke hollywood blockbusters.

I personally went and seen this movie last night. I thought that even though it is a bout ur personal demon it was not demonic by any means at all. The story line was good but, the movie left u wondering whats next?? For Christians to argue about this movie to me is crazy it by no means is made to offend anyone I suggest that if u do feel that way go see it. I thought it was good. I'd give it a grade of a C+ prolly.

It is strange how faith based belief causes people to act in certain ways.
Unthinking Christians don't realize that these gut based protests and reactions just highlight the weakness of their position.
If God is real and the bible is accurate, they should be expecting movies like the Golden Compass to come out, but not really worry about it. The bible claims these things are to be expected from the world, and that Christians should be a witness for God through actions.
Protesting fantasy movies, indicates that they can't believe the bible is true, don't trust that God is powerful enough to overcome bad advertising and really indicates that control is more important to them than saving souls.
The same applies to the abortion issue and to the gay issue.
The really funny thing is that the distributors of the film, sent out the message that it was anti Christian, precisely to build interest and start dialog for free advertising.
Incensed Christians are the best form of free advertising available today.

People have a right to protest whatever they want.
Imagine some guy wrote a children's' book, and he explained in multiple interviews that he was sickened by books that presented Judaism in a positive light, so he decided to set the record straight by writing a novel for kids that presented the true evils of the Jewish faith. If the book was turned into a movie targeted toward children, would Jewish people be justified in protesting the film?
If you think I am exaggerating, read interviews by Pullman.

As a Christian, I have a certain right to protest and rebel what goes against my God. And If i choose to protest "The Golden Compass' because the book trilogy they based it on supports killing God and ruling ourselves, so be it.
Tho Killing God is impossibble, it is still not something we should instill in the youth of America.
I am not saying we should all gather around theaters world wide and block the enterances, and I'm not saying that all should see as we do, because that also has a counter arguement that all christians shoulc conform to secular movies, movies, and well, beliefs.
But I am saying everyone has their own opnion, everyone has their own beliefs.
If Christians Choose to protest that movie, let them. So many pagens bash our Christian veiws because they think we are controling the world. We're not.
One day, you will see. There is a reason we believe what we do. There's a reason why we ask, think, say and protest what we do.
Keep in mind, this life will end at some point in time. And it's not your actions that will save you.
It's Jesus Christ, and what he did on the cross for all of our sins.
How does this tie in with going to see a movie, you ask.
Christian or no, many will go see that movie. Many may choose to believe what they see, and I want to let you know it's not ok.
Think about it, look at the big picture.

Yes, me too. It is based on three books authored by an atheist. If the movie does well, there will be more to come. Just like Harry Potter, each gets more into the dark side. I wouldn't let my children see the movie, or worse yet, read the three books.

I saw that movie on a sneak peek this past Saturday.
It was ok. I kind of agree with the reviews that is was a bit lack luster when compaired to the movies in its genre. It was, however, in no way directly disrespectful to any religon or religous group.
They say that the movie's/book's Magistarium (the governmental controling body of power) is a direct symbolism to the church. My thoughts on this is, you can see anything you want to see. If you are determined to kick up some "dust" on a subject, you can find a reason to do so. The people who are bickering about this movie just want to find something to bicker about.
If anytihng, the magistarium is more representative of a government not a religous authority.
Any movie that has to do with witches, powers, or ideas that could make the faithful stray, is going to cause a stir. Just ignore it.

It's quite astonishing that so many people still give a darn who anyone is, what they do, and what they are. I'm seeing the Golden Compass because I just plain feel like it. Couldn't care less about anyone else's opinion. Most likely all the hoopla is for nothing, since most writers, painters, etc. intend nothing by their artistic talent. It is those viewing it who seem to find something sinister. I saw a character on World of Warcraft the other day with a sacrilegious name...should I protest? Where is my whipping post? Three lashes with a wet noodle!

What? No one protested the Passion of the Christ?? It was the only movie in recent memory that opened without ONE SINGLE TRAILER or advertisement.. not one, That's how Jewish holywood protested Passion as an anti-semetic movie...
Maybe you do live under a rock

I was puzzled, too, until I saw on the news that the author of the movie and the series of books said he has a definite atheistic agenda. But I still feel that they should be no more offended by this than by movies that advance the very clear Christian agenda!

I control what comes into my home....but on the other hand if you are proclaiming to be Christian, aren't you concerned how the people who make movies are putting God down. You are suppose to defend God out of the love you have for him, and a movie about killing God is just immoral.
