the proper channels to fight for them like black people did..(courts, protests, etc)..

wouldn't it be the RIGHT thing to do, just giving them? why make people fight for their rights? I know he was just using this as an excuse to get around saying that he didn't agree with homosexuality, but i think he picked a piss poor argument

Agree. Disagree. What does it really matter? He was trying to say that the GLBT society has to earn their rights, which is utterly ridiculous. That's basically saying that slavery is okay because it helped the Africans earn their right to be here.

It is true, however, that just by saying you want it and just by protesting for the right doesn't mean you're going to get it. I mean, there are a lot of people that want to legalize marijuana, but it ain't going to happen any time soon..

Things will happen, eventually, because someday everyone will just have to accept it.

It was a piss poor argument and rather ignorant on his part. If you're going to argue, you might as well just tell the straight up truth, even if it is controversial.

There is no good argument against giving GLBT folks equal rights (by the way, I'm a preacher, too ... don't judge all of us by those on TV and radio!).

Taking this moron's argument, it seems to me that GLBT people are in fact going through proper channels and fighting for their rights, just as blacks did, and women as well. Many states are passing legislation against GLBTs, just as they did against the others. But, again, it's a false argument to begin with.

These people should actually STUDY the scriptures, instead of repeating the same old canned arguments. http://whosoever.org/bible/

You're right. He picked a piss poor argument. No one should have to fight for equal rights. Whether or not one believes homosexuality is right or wrong, gays deserve every right we all enjoy. We should leave our personal feelings aside and treat all people with respect. If one disagrees with homosexuality, then that person shouldn't participate in those activities. Good luck. 2D

I agree with your thoughts. Unfortunately, persons opposed to gays and lesbians base their entire argument on the Bible, although in truth, the English translation of the Bible means that it is an interpretation of the original text by mortals and therefore cannot be the direct word of God as so many believe. However, in general, persons with strong religious convictions are not swayed by this argument. In fact, it is my contention that even if you could prove the non-existence of a diety, (and I'm not proposing that as fact) the proof would not be accepted by strong believers. In other words, "a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest."
Finally, because I believe that God created man and man created religion, most people's belief system is determined by his/her chosen religious connections and teachings, that is interpretation, thus not necessarily the divine truth. Frankly, I am of the opinion that if God created the Universe, then he created everything in the Universe, including ALL mankind, not just Americans. By creating everything, he also created homosexuality. In other words homosexuality is not based on choice. In some ways I look at it as God's pop quiz to mankind as to how we treat those who are homosexuals. Do we love them as ourselves? Of course it's an individual's choice, but he must take responsibility for that choice in the eyes of God.

Preacher man's argument implies that rights are something the majority gets to bestow upon those minority groups the majority deem worthy.

The preacher's argument not only fails on the logical front, but on the spiritual one too. Can you really picture Jesus saying "Blessed are everyone who fights for it?"

Of course no one should have to FIGHT for their rights. Anyone claiming that you have to fight for your rights is not someone who has the heart to give them. I would hope that we have come a lot further in society than that.

I wonder why they can't ever have intelligent religious people on the radio? They do exist- I suppose they are too busy to drop everything and go on these shows.
