Canabalism???
"And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD they God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straightness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:" (Deuteronomy 28:53)

"And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness, wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates." (Deuteronomy 28:57)

The Bible is a history book about God and humanity. Lots of good and bad things happen in humanity and much of it is in the Bible. The Bible does not claim to have authority one way or the other over anything. It simply tells a story. Mankind use the Bible for justification of their authority (in most cases religiously). So maybe your question would be better asked this way:

Does your religion condone?

Are you intentionally taking this passage out of context to be inflammatory or are you seriously asking? The scripture is referencing a curse (previously mentioned in Leviticus and actualized in 2 Kings) that would befall the Israelites if they refused to obey the Lord.

Hope that gives you something to work with Robert.

It's good to know you were serious. I wasn't being harsh just asking for clarification. It's hard to tell on this site sometimes. To this day I too encounter confusion over certain passages which is why I obtained an NIV study Bible. The language is modern and for every tricky passage there is a note that will elaborate on the subject. Lots of good historical and biographical references as well. I haven't found an online Bible that does the job quite so well. Peace.

Please grow up. Read the context

Dear Robert K, and others. Since you ask. The passage in Deuteronomy refers to the awful things that will happen if the people of God go their own way and abandon him. v 49 'The Lord will bring a nation against you ... (who will ravage everything you have - summary) ' and things will be so bad that (v. 53) 'You will eat ... your sons and daughters ... ' and even the most 'delicately bred woman among you' (v 56) will eat her own afterbirth. It's a warning of how bad things will get, not a command to do these things. Hence 'Read the context'.

The Bible says many things, but this kind of trawling for anything worth criticizing is childish in the extreme. In my view.

Well it sure seems as though the bible is saying that cannibalism should be practiced within the family. And that eating outsiders would be sinfull. or at least, not satisfying.

But Za seems to be saying that your question is childish and incomplete. But, unfortunately, he/she gives no further details. It's a shame, I'd be willing to learn better but an order to do so simply has nothing for us to work with.

Okay, let's all play!

The Bible condones suicide, and even encourages it!

"So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself." (Matthew 27:5)

"Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise." (Luke 10:37c)

no, it doesn't. you are quoting passages talking about what would happen to the israelites if they abandoned the torah.

it should be obvious that the bible is against cannibalism, since at the very least, human meat is not kosher.

No the bible actually forbids it. You shall not eat flesh with the lifeblood still in it. (Man or animal)
