I have quite a bit of family that has served all the way back to the Rev war. But these are the ones that I know for sure.

Great grandfather was in WWI as an infantryman. Both of my grandfathers were in WWII, one as an infatryman that fought in the Phillipines, New Guinea, and Okinawa, the other was in the Navy and got wounded by a kamikaze off of Okinawa. Two of my great uncles fough tin WWII as well, one as an infantryman in the 1st ID, he fought from omaha beach to Germany, and the other was a decorated warrior as a Forward observer in N. Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He apparently had 7 LTs shot out from under him throughout the course of the war. He joined the Air Force after the war and participated in the Berlin air lift. He retired as an E-8.

My father was a Marine from 1967-1975 and he fought in Vietnam as a helicopter door gunner(2 PHs 1BS/V).My uncle was a Chief Petty officer in the Navy. Two of my brothers served in the Navy working on the decks of aircraft carriers. Then, there's me that has been in the Army for 6 years. I was in the initial invasion of Iraq where I got wounded, and have been deployed to Kuwait and Korea. (go grunts)

I'm a 5th generation military wife if that tells you anything.

My maternal grandfather fought in the Pacific during WWII (he later retired as a captain), and both of my paternal grandparents were stationed in Germany during the same war. My brother was in Bosnia, my husband has been deployed twice since 9/11 (including being on one of the ships that launched counterstrikes into Afghanistan right after 9/11). My dad did a few years in the army, then joined the Navy...he did several years on active duty, then retired from the reserves as a commander. My uncle was a Lt Col in the Marines, one cousin just got back from Iraq (National Guard), another cousin is a nurse at a naval hospital, my aunt was in the army for four years, etc. The list goes on.

There is so much military personnel in my family that when I tried to join the Peace Corps, I was accused of doing it as an act of rebellion. LOL

My Grandfather served in the Army in WW2. My great uncle (his brother) served in the Navy in WW2 and had a Destroyer sunk out from underneath him. My uncle was a CMCPO in the Navy during Vietnam and after. I have a cousin thats a Corpsman in the Navy-he started out as a USMC 0311. I have another cousin that's Spec Forces in the Army. Another Cousin thats a Lieutenant in the Navy at Great Lakes. I served in the USAF for the Last four years and recently transfered to the Army to be a Cav Scout. My little brother is in the Army as an 11c Infantry Mortarman. I'm sure there is more that I am forgetting right now.

One great-great or great again was at Kings Mountain, One of my great grandparents were Army of Tennessee (CSA), grandfather was WW1, father and seven uncles WW2, another uncle in Korea plus one WW2 stayed in and made that, and I was in Vietnam, along with three cousins (2 Army-1 Air Force) and the uncle from WW2 who retired in 1967 made Vietnam also, niece was just got a medical out from the Army, injuries from Iraq. Those are the ones I know of-we don't seem to miss much-father's side is mostly Navy, mother's side is mostly Army. Cousin in Air Force and me as a Marine are the odd ones out in that-though the uncle is Korea was a corpsman with the Marines at Chosin. Had some distant relatives on other sides in some of those-Civil War, World War One and Two.

My Brother Joe was in the Navy, but he was physically and mentally abused by his superiors and is now relatively insane. (He functions as a commercial fisherman, but is not as sane as he was before he went AWOL from the Navy) My uncle Butch was in WWII, and was able to escape the battle of the Bulge by stealing a Jeep. He also used to tell stories about stealing Cows during the Republican Great Depression by putting shoes on them. (So it would just look like 3 guys walked through the person's farm) I'm not sure how much of his stories were true, and how much were shock value. My dad always told people he went to Canada during Vietnam, which I found to be untrue. He was the youngest brother, and his brothers were all already in service, so he couldn't be drafted.
So, yes. I've had family members serve. We paid our price for Freedom.

The ones I know about served during the Revolutionary War and WWII. Nothing since then (mostly just a matter of good/bad timing, depending on your POV).
