I have a 3 year old and a 13 month old...both girls. I am having no problem finding things for the older one, but I was wondering if there were any parents out there who had toy suggestions for the younger one. She is very musical and likes to climb and explore.

Well my personal favorite, are the neat, soft animals puppets sold pretty exclusively at nature stores, that have a recording in them like the sound of the animal. Very life like and sweet for a young child. Many have puppets as well, you can place your hand in so you can interact with your child.

Sure, you can go for an academic learning toy, but I would think music, art, nature - well - these are the areas that need to be honed more in our chidren, in my estimation.

The academics, will always be there, in fact, many enjoy cramming them down a child's throat at a very early age in place of having their interpersonal and communication skills developed. Such a disservice...kids learn at their own intellectual pace - and that pace is somewhat different for each. -But parents often feel it is a true race, succumbing to public educators in all respects. Pathetic.

So hey, have a lovely holidays...a little xylophone (sp) is a cute idea - anything that makes music or noise if you will, is stimulating for young children.

Sincerely,

Grace

You don't necessarily have to get something just for 13 month olds. My daughter is 14 months and some of the toys say "2+ or 3+" of course I wouldn't give her any small parts. How about a water baby? They make really small ones dressed like minnie mouse or elmo. Or a toy vacuum cleaner? I also got her a disney princess piano..really cute and musical! lol

We actually just bought 2 things from target for our 12 month old (Birthday is today) and she LOVES them already.

She is also a climber and explorer!

A self propelled train with Curious George on it and a small thing (A base the 3 hard wires and different shapes on them that they can push through the wires - man I wish I could describe them better) Both were under $10 and we just got them yesterday so they should have them now.

She would not put either one down this AM. Imagine that!

i'm purely 13 yet i elect to be a neourologist as quickly as I advance up so i study a great type of books on the suggestions and defects of the suggestions. i think of that your new child might have autism although that's slightly to early to appreciate for particular. some sighs are if he's socially witdrawn etc.sturdy luck!

Check out LEAPFROG.com. They have great learning toys and have those toys separated by appropriate ages, for 'normal' children.

Good luck!

Not to be too cheap but at that age give them a card board box and they will be happy for hours. If she is walking get her something to push. Or something musical. I hope that helps. Good luck.

Any of her siblings plush toys that are'nt too big. all of her rattles. any of those stackable buckets, card board boxes with staples and tape removed. "Busy box or busy blanket" You know the kind with the mirror on it, the buttons and pockets, moveable jiggly toy with the beads in it etc.
