I've been wearing soft contacts for about 5 or 6 years now, and they have been great for me until now. It started about 2 months ago. Everytime I wear my contacts my eyes get red and irritated, and it's very painful. I have been wearing glasses lately to see if this solves the problem. It doesn't seem like it does because my eyes still get red around evening time everyday. I try clear eyes, but that only gives me relief for a little while, then it comes back worse. I dont think I have dry eyes. Although I have been smoking a lot lately. Could this be the problem? I have tried quitting to see if this was the problem, but i just can't help myself. I hate wearing glasses, so if anyone knows what's going on with my eyes please let me know. Thank you.

I've been to a doc and he gave me some allergy drops. I think it's called Falcon or something. It did work for a while but it starts again as soon as I put my contacts on. I even tried a fresh pair, same thing happens.

I have several recomendations for you:
Try a different brand contacts and cleaning solution
Check for other allergy sympthoms like skin rashes or runny nose. If you have those, you should get some kind of antihistamin prescribed from your doc and that will control your red eye.
Also, when was the last time you got your eye sight check up. You might be needing a change in your prescription.
Please visit your optometrist if it persists after a while.

It's possible you haven't changed or cleaned the contacts often enough and now your eyes are irritated. If you haven't seen an eye doctor in awhile, now is a good time. The doctor may be able to prescribe some drops for dry eyes that are much better than over the counter drops.
The same happened to one of my sons who was wearing his contacts continuously.

Are your contacts old? Are you cleaning the good enough? That can cause irritation and can cause an infection. It could be allergies too. A lot of people are allergic to smoke, and if you're smoking then it could be bothering your eyes. Your best bet would be to go see your eye doctor to rule out an infection.

That happened to me last spring. It could be allergies, environmental factors (smoke, dust, etc.), or pink eye. The latter is very contagious and should be treated immediately. I'd book an appointment with an optometrist if I were you.

Have you honestly been cleaning your lenses properly? If the answer is yes, go see your eye care professional... don't muck around with your eyes, it's not worth the risk or the chance it will go away by itself.
