Why would you ask a believer to question their Faith?

1.) It's "atheists".

2.) We can't help it if you take offense when we merely point out you don't have a shred of evidence to support any of your claims to the supernatural.

3.) Believing something without sufficient evidence is of no benefit to anyone, and can frequently be detrimental to the person himself as well as society at large.

From my BOOK called DICTIONARY: atheist: from the Greek meaning -without god - an atheist is one who believes that there is no God. So that's what THEY are. Why do THEY ask so many insulting Qs is the same reason I think religious belief folk of varied beliefs ask and answer with the same insulting sarcastic responses (for example Pangel is a good example of this, a repeatedly good example) BECAUSE they are not conversant with Answers Guidelines and NO ONE REPORTS them. Reread, you all who answer what I term 'silly' (sarcastic, angry, ranting, superior, etc.) answers, the TERMS OF CONDUCT and maybe you can then begin to try to become a better example of what Answers is trying to let us form together, a format for views renedered with sincerity and compassion, who really want to help one another. If it bothers you, don't answer, or learn to move from an information sharing point of view when you do answer. No one gets a broader perspective from a small minded attitude shared meanly.
This was not easy for me to respond to because it could be seen that I'm complaining about how people share. Just reread the Conduct and Terms part and you'll become more enlightened.
My personal opinion on why there is so much anger being shared is that the people who are angered or insulting are simply afraid, somehow a nerve was stepped on and they are yelping. I know what I believe and why, but that is for my own personal self. I would never put down someone else's belief system, or lack of belief system (which is still a belief system in a way), everyone has the right to believe in their heart the way they choose. However, having those beliefs ranting or threatening anyone is not right either. So here is where we come to accord -- on YahooAnswers, the perfect practice ground. I state my opinion, you state yours, someone gets voted best answer (I wish we could have ties) - EVERYBODY ENLIGHTEN UP WILL YA??? And quit pickin' on us imperfect spellers will ya too? :)

First, remember who started it. Second, an 'atheist' is someone who doesn't believe in deities

Now why would I, someone who doesn't believe, ask questions about other's faith?

(I think questioning someone's faith is automatically assumed to be 'insulting', there is the hypocrisy)

I for one don't like being demonized. I also don;t like the world being held to ransom by the two largest religions at each other's throats currently in a war, always arguing about who has the real skydaddys interests at heart, both of which actively believe and seemingly hasten an 'armageddon' scenario.

Not only that, but what, as an atheist (and gay woman) do I face from people of faith? Propaganda. Defamation. Slander.

You think that's ok for me to ask questions about this setup?

The common and vocal accusations I (and millions like me) have received to date from religionists are as follows.

Abomination
Unwashed
Unclean
Dirty
Evil
Diseased
Stupid
Dumb
Unsaved
'Satan's pawn'
Morally equivalent to a murderer
Morally equivalent to a rapist
Morally equivalent to a paedophile
Self-worshipping
Irresponsible
Proof of Armageddon
Ignorant
Cowardly
Immoral
A blight on society
Shouldn't be near children (including my own)

(I'm an upstanding member of society, completely honest, with a good employment record. I raised my child to be polite, moral and hardworking. Can you see how the above defamations might gall?)

Do I have the right to ask questions about religion?

Whatever your answer, I say YES. The one;s I ask the tough questions of, are the ones who've made my life tough. I sometimes feel I have to be three times better a person than they do just to fight off the slurs.

Agnostics and Atheists

Are at peace with themselves and those around them
without needing a crutch or an explanation for things that don't need answers

Let me ask ....Why has G Bush's America banned evolution and Darwin in some schools? Is that enlightenment or the work of narrow blinkered minds?

I would ask a believer to question their Faith because every conflict in the world is between those that believe in religion

Israel Palestine Kosova Sarajevo Bosnia to give just a few examples (history is full of religious crusades ... but religion knows no shame it seems ....no conscience)

Atheists are people who claim there is no God.... whether they actually believe it or not is something you can take or leave... I personally believe that those who claim God doesn't exist are actually bucking the norm, to stand out...

People ask questions for two reasons really...

1) they honestly want to learn something... or
2) they just want to stir the mud about something, and it's the easiest way to do it.

And as for insulting questions.. Well.... you can just assume they are ignorant and are stirring the mud.... or you can look at it the other way and just answer their question, thinking that they are uninformed and are really curious. Either way, it's up to you how you interpret it.

And why not ask a believer to question their faith? I see nothing wrong with that.... if you didn't have questions about your faith then you'd know it all... and if you knew it all, there should be no reason for faith. Aren't we supossed to "actively seek God"?

Think about it. :o)

Atheists do not believe in the existence of gods.

They ask questions because they like to make people think.

I would ask a believer to question their faith because I do not see religious faith as a good thing, and I am not alone in that viewpoint.

At some point, most atheists questioned their faith and ended up replacing that faith with knowledge. I did it, and I've seen others here do it. It's not the end of the world.

And I don't ask insulting questions. I ask strange questions.

wait. Atheists ask insulting questions regarding religion and spirituality? That is all Christians do. Constantly insulting me by trying to get me to believe in their religion by using corny analogies. There is no greater insult than being treated like a child to believe in childish things.

Why not, you folks ask me to do it all the time. Constantly with the why don't you believe in god questions. At least our questions make sense.
I don't think it is a bad thing for people of faith to understand they really have no basis for it. They should be careful judging other peoples beliefs, since there own is not built on any kind of foundation other that tradition.

Athiests is a word used by christians as an insult to people who do not believe in their god.

Atheists are people who do not believe in god but do believe in truth. Therefore will question anything which is not established on truth..!!

Atheists are people who do not beleive in anything except the physical world. That is, nothing supernatural, nothing spiritual, and nothing religious, particualrly, they do not beleive in any god or gods.

Many are insulting because people are jerks. Atheists are not any more or less jerks than catholics (to pick a random group). But they tend to stand out more because they have a big target to shoot at in the form of all organized religion.

If you are not questioning what you beleive, then you are not thiking. If you are not thinking, then you might as well be dead.

I generally do not see a lot of insulting questions regarding faith, likewise I don't see to many "questions" condemning non believers to eternal hell fires.

We are all entitled to our own beliefs, if you see a question that offends you don't read it, don't answer it. Ignore it. Faith or lack their of is usually strong enough to withstand the most aggressive assault.

However if you are insecure in your faith, do not blame those who questions, as it is not their responsibility to maintain your faith. That is something you need to take up with your minister, priest, pastor, reverend, rabbi, etc.
