2001 nissan sentra gxe - catalytic converter?

Question

my check engine light came on yesterday so i brought it to autozone. they hooked their little gizmo up and said i need to check my vacuum hoses or i may need a new catalytic converter. she looked it up and said that there isnt one that fits my car so they would have to cut and weld a new one on. has anyone else had this problem? is it expensive to fix? is it bad to keep driving the car if the catalytic converter is going bad?

I agree go to a Nissan shop have them check it, that light covers many things like the emissions system most times it is a loose or faulty fuel cap or a faulty oxygen sensor don't let them cut it its very rare to have a cat go bad in a fuel injected car have a certified shop check it the only thing auto zone is certified in is selling u a expensive universal aftermarket part you don't need and will not fit or perform correctly and once its installed you own it and you don't get your $ back. the cap would be 8-15 $ and the oxygen sensor 20-40 $

DO NOT LET THEM REPLACE THE CATALYTIC ! if the car has under 100,000 miles it is warrantied by the manufacturer. the majority of check engine lights are a bad sensor which is infinitely less $$$. take it to a reputable garage and have the engine properly scanned. cast $60-100.00 and worth it.

Cat converters are warrantied for 8 years and 80,000 miles I suppose you wrote down the P0420 or P0430 code for the bad converter. I just hope your car can be fixed under warranty because Converter (pair) on your engine is expensive.
