I have had the stomach flu since wednesday! i was hoping that it'd only be a 24 hour thing, but no such luck. when is it time to go see a doctor? also, what can i do to alleviate the symptoms? oh and i am also wondering how i could tell if i was dehydrated... i haven't felt up to drinking or eating much at all. i don't feel like i can keep ANYTHING down and am so nauseous and just don't even feel like drinking anything. i know i should, but it's hard :( sorry if this post was a bit "woe is me" haha

there is no such thing as a stomach flu. Influenza can only replicate in the nasal area. so it ur having stomach pains and nausea and vomiting and diarhea its not influenza or aka the flu. if your having massive diarhea you probably are dehydrated. Urine color can tell you alot about dehydration. being dizzy on standing increase pulse decrease cognitive abilities are all alarming and early symptoms you should watch for. Drink pedialite thats a good way to stay hydrated it works much better than gatorade... but it you have gatorade mix it half and half with water.. i would let it pass. if it doesnt going to see a doc isnt a bad idea but chances are it will pass before your appointment date comes.

seriously there is no such thing as the stomach flu... the person below has no idea what she is talking about.
here is a source.

You should definitely drink as often as you can, you'll be losing water a lot more quickly. Even though you'll probably just chuck it back up, it's better than not drinking anything. When I had food poisoning on a school trip to Germany (burgers that are still white = not a good idea) I made the mistake of not drinking cos I couldn't keep anything down, and eventually I ended up throwing up my own stomach acids. Not nice.

As for the doctor thing, leave it another day or so before you go - besides, there's probably not a whole lot they can do. All you can really do to feel better is sleep and drink as often as you can, don't try taking any pills - your stomach won't be able to keep those down, either.

Try to take sips of gatorade and water as often as possible. Symptoms of dehydration include:
Low blood pressure.
Blood pressure that drops when you go from lying down to standing.
Rapid heart rate (normal is 60-90 beats per minute)
Poor skin turgor -- the skin may lack its normal elasticity and sag back into position slowly when pinched up into a fold the skin should spring right back into position within a second.
Delayed capillary refill which is when you pinch your finger nail and it turns white and when you let go the pink should return quickly.
Dizziness.
Very dark urine and urinating less often than usual. Urine should be pale yellow when you are propely hydrated.

A friend of mine just went through the same thing. Eat some cottage cheese or yougurt and drink some warm tea, You also must take rest for about 24 hours and don't eat anything heavy (meat or bread).

you can have stomach flu by the way to whoever said it, my doctor said i had stomach flu as my tonsils infected my stomach area . i had it for about a week and was given tablets because i couldnt keep anything , even water down. after the first tablets i threw up but then the second dose helped. i just drank water in tiny sips and had throat sweets and mints. you should see a doctor if you cant even keep water down. take care ok......

Ginger ale always seems to work for me. Don't try to drink big swallows though. Take tiny sips. You could also suck on ice.
