I believe in God, and call it naivity or whatever you choose, however, I have yet to hear someone personally state that they absolutely, unequivocally do not believe in the existence of God, a higher power or deity of some sort. I'm truly respectfully interested in finding if this is true that there are people who do not believe. Thanks for your sharing.

Please understand that I am not foolish to insult others because they don't believe as I. There is no need to state whether you are considered intelligent or not. I know people of faith who are Ph. D's and some who are elementary school drop-outs.

Don't get out much? Yes there are several people who do not believe in a god, higher power or anything resembling those things.
You call it naivette...Most atheists would argue that the other way around. I have read the bible, I grew up in a very christian home with all the trimmings...
You want to call it naive? Go ahead. I personally think I have gone past being naive to seeing things for what they are.

I'm afriad to say that the question and subsequent reply's only prove the subjectivity of human experience and the tenuous grasp any conceved ideas of truth have on reality. Blatently people can believe practically anything, as long as they have a good imagination.
Public agreement of what is truth varies constantly. I think this reflects the 'veil of perception' that is part of the human condition.
I have beliefs and I do not expect other people to share those beliefs.
In fact I don't even expect my beliefs to be accurate or 'true', my beliefs are my beliefs.
ANY person who claims to 'know the truth' is deluded in my opinion, as our limitations as human beings, either because we are products of evolution or becasue we were not made as perfect as God, prohibit access to 'reality' (if a reality 'out there' even exists).
Consider your visual perception of the colour blue. You have an experience of 'blueness' but how do you know we experience the same sensation when we see 'blue'?
Sure you can use logic to deduct 'facts' as in science but is there any knowledge to be gained about the world that does not follow logic? Perhaps we don't have the mental concepts to conceve some 'facts' even if they were right in front of us!
I do not believe in god or any supernatural essence that brought us into existence, but that doesn't make me right or give me a rights to proclaim other beliefs false unless there is good reason. By good reason I mean that some beliefs are harmful to humanity. e.g. They do not follow humanitarian principles and should not be supported or adopted. It is only through a shared agreement of what is right and wrong, what can be tolerated and what cannot that we reach a consensus about how we should act.
This question is an excellent question because it encourages debate, and opens a forum for us to collectivly understand and interpret our approximation of 'reality' and by its nature it should be continually 'evolving' (to borrow a biological analogy) to meet the challenges of the future.

One reason that people do not believe in a deity is that if one existed then it seems that there would be some intervention on behalf of those who are suffering most terribly in the world; unless the deity were either evil or arbitrary in his/her choice of whom he/she favors and who would want a deity like that?

I read all the other comments before answering and I feel sad. God is out there and alive waiting for everyone. The world is in a sorry state, that is not God's fault, it is man's. God gave us free will even not to believe in Him.

I don't believe in any god. Unequivocally. I do not believe in any deity of any sort.
That is different than denying the possibility of their existence, for those of you who cannot differentiate.

i think you are right.what ever your religion is , even the worst people have a part of them looking for the truth , something that would make them have a goal for what they do in this life i mean we were not made to do what ever we want and die and then nothing . that part that is looking for god could be destroyed by doing so much of bad stuff or maybe they were people that don't have enough brain (they were made to make people that have brains be thank full and use it which mostly aren't).
