Assume we do not know what the truth about religion and the existance of God is.
so which person is better?
1. Someone who really seeks the truth but gets lost and chooses the wrong option (wrong religion).
2. Someone who just follows his/her parents religion, that is the true religion, but does not even know why he/her is doing it. He or she does not care.

Starting from your assumption, I would say that it is better to seek the truth on your own, even if it leads to the religion of your parents. I really don't think God, any god, would want us to just go through the motions without knowing what we are doing or why.

When you seek for the truth, you seek with an open heart. Only a fanatic would go for the wrong option. I am a Muslim yet I respect everyone who are truthful to their own religion and respect others. Whatever religion you are, the most important question is 'are you a good human being'? Religion is just a matter of faith, the way you live your life and your beliefs. I see many in Yahoo Answers battling over who's God is the true God while condemning other religion. Its so sad that you guys are arguing about religion when you are not even a good human being!

If your heart is open to the truth, the Lord will show you. You can get lost in other belief systems, The god of this world can blind you. There are many Christian religions, I see nothing wrong with researching them. Pray to see the truth while reading the Bible. (John is wonderful). Find your truth there.

Both are equally wrong. You are responsible for yourself. The soul that sins, dies. Mom and Dad, grandma and grandpa cannot do it for you. If you seek, you will find. God will make sure of it. If you settle down in the wrong religion and do not continue to seek and learn, then God will hand you over to that delusion. 2 Thess. 2:11

The first is better since he has tried to learn something during which he went confused, and adopted 'some' religion. He will now learn aboiut that reigion and understand what should be his true religion..

In islam, the second one is called 'Taqlid' as if you follow blindly without knowing why are you doing it, or where the proof Allah ask you to do it.
The first one is 'musyrik' because assuming he knows Islam (either by preaching of others or by his own study), but chose not to believe it.

The second case will reward you with the lowest heaven, but the first case will make you land in the hell (but not the deepest one).

Only God knows it all.

erm i really didn't want to answer this, because they are both wrong, but i would see the 1st person being more pitiful, because he really wanted to seek light but happened to get lost. The 2nd person, is born with so much advantage but take them for granted, so what is the point?

#1 - The seeker - seeking a true, real, close relationship with God is what it is all about. Mindlessly following someone else does not help you in anyway.
