Try getting a second opinion- most insurances will pay for that and I GOOD doctor should have no problem at all with you wanting another opinion. At the same time you really should look into some sort of counseling to help you deal with the stress of your deformity. Counseling is not just something for people with mental disorders but also for people with anxiety or depression- which it sounds like you may have. If you are emotional stronger you may be able to handle the possibility that nothing drastic can be done. Since I don't know the extent of your facial deformity I can only go on what the professionals in the field think. If you have seen a reputable doctor who is concerned that surgery will make it worse then that should really be taken to heart. Good luck to you.

You could ask for a second opinion but I wouldn't go to a reconstructive surgeon that my doctor hasn't recommended as there are too many charlatans out there.

Could I also suggest that you see a counsellor or support group. You are clearly very distressed with the way you look and even if you did have the work, you would probably need help to come to terms with your new looks.

I also heard a news item recently about a website aimed at people with facial deformities. They may be able to help you. I'm sorry but I can't remember the name or url of the site.

I do hope you get this sorted- you sound so desperate. Good Luck

It is very difficult to answer this question without knowing what is wrong. I feel so sorry for you and wish with all my heart I could help. It is alright people saying you don't need anything done but if you are reluctant to go out, you have a problem of some sort. I know there is a special make up to cover birthmarks etc. Perhaps if you search the web you might come up with a site that could help. I wish you luck and a speedy solution to your problem. xxxx PS. I have typed in "Facial Deformity" into google and come up with lots of sites that might help. x

Hi,Gen/Kathy,have a look maybe online or even yellow pages, see if there are any cosmetic surgeons that will give you a free consultancy,go see him/her and ask what they can do for you. Some of these places to have a monthly pay scheme so you would be able to pay as you go rather than one lump sum.You really have your heart set on this so i am not going to try to persuade you not to anymore, even though i don`t think you need it ,so i hope this idea helps you get the results you so badly want xx P.S there are often advertisments in the sunday magazine the one that comes with the news of the world, maybe one of them will be ok for you .

You have to consider that surgery may not be an option, but don't take their word for it - make an appointment with a plastic surgeon that specializes in burns, and seek even another opinion if necessary. There are online support groups that might be able to provide some good advice.

In my lifetime, i have met several people with some pretty severe facial scarring from burns. One person was across the hall in my college dorm, and he pretty much avoided other people as much as he could.

I met another person when I was a college instructor, and she was one of my students. She was amazing. About 3/4 of her face was burned beyond recognition. What was amazing to me was that she was one of the most outgoing people in the class, and her smile still seemed truly warm and beautiful. In spite of her burns, she actually stood out from most of the other students because of her attractiveness. I have to honestly say that her appearance did not detract from her beauty.

Covering your face isn't necessary for other people to accept your injury. There will be people that can't get beyond your appearance, but the ones that do are worth knowing and the other aren't. A happy social life probably is worth the occasional hurt that occurs from people that react to your appearance.

If a facial cover helps you gain confidence, then go for it. There are a variety of prostheses that can be formed to look somewhat natural.

But in the long term, life would be much better if you were able to gain enough confidence to go about things as if you were never burned. You may be able to develop these skills through counseling or a burn support group. It takes a great deal of courage to to endure people's stares, and I don't know how good I could do, but having met that one student makes me think that anyone can overcome their appearance if they choose.

By the way, I looked at your 360 picture, and you look great! I'll bet people like you better than you like yourself, and you don't realize how insignificant your burns actually are.

You do not have to have a local doctor send you to a plastic surgeon... Look in the yellow pages. Call them up. There's a good chance you could at least get a free consultation from someone who knows more about reconstructive surgery than some random general practitioner.

you might just have to believe that "doctors know best," darling. maybe you really DO NOT need a surgery or perhaps things might just get even worse if you have one.

what you need to do now is not to look at your face but into your heart and find out what's in there that you can share to the world. look inside you and you'll find your true beauty... not the one that fades but the one that lasts long after you've left this world.

if you keep on focusing on your so-called deformity, you'll fail to enjoy the many gifts that God has given you... so stop worrying over something that doesn't last but rather focus your energy on developing your talents and skills and other worthwhile things.

God bless!

You do not say where you live... is absolutely necessary to have a recommendation before you see a reconstructive surgeon? It technically should be a reconstructive plastic surgeon to make the final decision of what can and can not be done for you!

Not sure what's going on here! Try having some photos taken of yourself and truly look at them, also talk to a counsellor.

Also say these quotes to yourself every day and when you feel negative about yourself.

'I'm a beautiful and intelligent person and I have a lot to give to this world.'

'Who I am is someone who has the power within to create a Heaven on earth for myself and to radiate a piece of that Heaven out to everyone whose life touches mine.'
