If you are ordering steak, order a merlot or a cabernet sauvignon. If you are ordering fish, order a chardonnay or a pinot grigio.

if you are going to a fancy restaurant, they will likely have a sommelier (aka wine expert) just tell them what you are having for you meal and they will suggest something. the only question they may ask is if you prefer red or white, although depending on your meal selection, there may be one better suited than the other.

don't worry about not knowing about it! it's better to ask for help then order something that will a) taste bad with the food b) be too expensive c) all of the above.

just look at the list to see your price range for a glass or bottle (if you are gonna have more than one glass, it might be better to get a bottle or 1/2 litre as this is more cost effective) and don't let them talk you into something you can't afford. if they do suggest an expensive wine, just say "that's a little more than i want to spend, is there something similar that costs between X and Y?")

trust me. i know virtually nothing about wine, and go through this same dillemma everytime i go out to eat! this is a good way to learn what you like though!

bon appetit!

Sure! Know that all wine lists are made with the lighter wines at the top and the heavier or bolder wines are at the bottom. Of course, at one time you could only drink (red wine) with beef and you drink (white wine) with fish. Now days you can choose whatever you like. Stick with the wines at the top of the list(Riesling) is a great white wine(for beginners) and Beringer(Zinfandel) is a great blush wine to start with(Pinot Noir) is a great red wine to start with. You can go with any brands of these wines, NEVER choose the house brand(it tends to be the cheapest and the nastiest). Go for an upgraded wine. For Instance:Red Wine Top Choice-Cabernet Sauvignon. Blush Top Wine Choice-Mosel-Saar Ruwer. White Wine Rop Choice-Clos Du Bois Chardonnay.

If you really don't want to look stupid, just talk to the waiter or ask if they have a sommelier on staff (most really fancy restaurants will). After you've ordered your food, ask him/her what wine they think would go well with that dish. Without knowing what you will be ordering, there is no way for anyone here to give you a recommendation.

Go to an acting class and do some role playing...

Seriously though some Women find it refreshing when a Man is able to own up to not knowing something for a change.

Do you like Wine?
If not try a Red Wine (Merlot or Shiraz) it is good for your heart.

BTW-you can Drink Red Wine with White Meat but "usually" Red Wine goes better with Red Meat.
hope this helps:)

Give the wine list a look when you get your turn. Get a glass of wine. If you are eating fish, go with white wine (Chardannay). Otherwise, go red. Get some Merlot (red, type of grape, the t is very soft = Merlow). Merlot is a safe bet (you'll probably like it). Make sure you propose a toast before you drink.

You won't look like a moron. You are welcome sometimes to even get a free sample first. Make sure wine is what you or your friends wants. If you don't know about wine, you may not like any of it. Order something else that you know you like. Ask your friends what they would like.

Red wines for red meats, chicken and pork.
White wines for Fish!
Thats a pretty safe bet..
But remember its not a rule.
Some Chicken dinners with pasta and cheese are delicious with a good white Zif~

Whatever you do, don't go in there and order Beringer!! You'll look like a rube, and Beringer is vile. It's MD 20/20, just in a real wine bottle.
