I've heard the rumor "if you drink beer rather then hard alcohol then it will help build muscle better". I'm a 19 year old college student. I've been working out for a year and a half off and on and am just now starting to get more serious and get serious about building muscle. So i'm looking for answers. Anyone who can help. thanks a lot

haha no i don't believe that. But I wanted to see what others said. The person that originally mentioned that to me explained his reasoning further. he said that beer makes you fat. If you workout, you can turn that fat into muscle so it basically just adds on bulk to your body.

Alcohol is one of the worst things for bodybuilders to have. It reduces testosterone and blood androgen levels, interrupts the Krebs cycle, decreases insulin sensitivity, reduces cell calcification of nutrients and increases estrogen levels. Alcohol, especially beer, also contains empty calories that aren't much use to the body and doesn't give muscle tissue anything it needs to build on.
If you're really serious about bodybuilding then my advice is to spend that beer money on good protein supplements and healthy whole foods.

exactly the opposite. regular alcohol consumption decreases testosterone production and the levels of circulating androgens in the blood. the higher the BAC the lower test levels will be. alcohol has nothing but a negative effect on anabolic activity in the body. it decreases test production, effects the sleep cycles which decrease growth hormone output and it dehydrates the muscle cell and disrupts the Krebs cycle.
in terms of building muscle beer or hard alcohol will produce the negative effects
fat does not turn into muscle, it's physiologically impossible. they are 2 completely different cell structures. muscle cells are myocytes and fat cells are adipocytes. turning fat into muscle would be like turning an orange into an apple

Not true! You'll get just the opposite. A big fat belly and extra unwanted weight! I couldn't lose weight for years until I stopped drinking so much beer... Good luck! The person who told you that is either a beer promoter, or a drunk! :)
