I know Photoshop is the best for photos, but what is the best for videos editing besides Windows Movie Maker?

I recently purchased Pinnacle 11, my first video editing software package. I chose it because it's used by many professionals and considered very powerful.

What surprised me is that I was able to begin using it quickly and easily. I can see that there is a lot for me to learn but I'm pleased that they made the package intuitive enough for me to use it right out of the box.

Adobe Aftereffects is probably the best, especially if you're already familiar with photoshop features.

They share a lot of features, as the effects are essentially the same, but just used on many still images (the individual frames).

Although strictly speaking, it's not 'video editing software' it is more powerful than packages like finalcut pro, avid etc. You compare it to windows movie maker, so I'm assuming you're only going to be dealing with digital movie files downloaded from digital sources (i.e. you don't need to bring in footage from tapes).

The tools in it are great. You can use it for grading, keying, compositing etc. and it even has pre-set text effects and transitions for the less experienced user.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 is. It will work very nicely with Photoshop CS3 (if that is your current version). There is a 30 day trial version at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=premiere%5Fpro

Here is the manual if you want to read it first. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/premierepro_cs3_help.pdf

I use Sony Vegas and it is very in depth and allows you to do a lot of stuff, but it is complicated and takes awhile to learn, especially when you learn it without a guide like me.
