I know the media has "forgot" about the Iraq war because things are improving and they do not know how to spin it.

Sometimes stupid things, like celebrity gossip, are a nice way NOT to think about the war in Iraq for five minutes. I care and I want peace just as much as the next gal, but damn! There is only so much being pissed off that I can do. (well, no actually I have a limitless supply of "pissed offness"....yeah, I know it's not a word but I'm using it anyway!) Sometimes I just want to put it to the back of my mind and chill the hell out. I can care again tomorrow...the war will still be there, I promise. I think you might need to focus a little less of YOUR time and attention on the war and realize that all that worrying you're doing IS NOT FREAKIN' HELPING!!!!!
Take a break.

I agree w/ lemontreegr. Showing how the country's progressing, the Mil is making strides, and the administration is doing something right isn't as "story worthy" as how they're messing up. Since most of the country is anti-administration reporting the gains and victories would just have folks changing the channel. Bad for business.
You go candi_jojo. Take that word and run with it! Make it your own. You think phrases like "homie", "Bootylicious" and "chillin'" would've been popular unless someone said "Hey that's great, I'm gonna use that!"?!?
Hope to see it in Urban Dictionary soon!!!

My personal opinion and experience:

I don't watch the news anymore, instead I watch E. The reason is because the news is always bad. It depresses me. I refuse to watch CNN or FOXNews. I admit that I do get caught up in the celebrity gossip simply because it's less stressful for me. The nation is on Prozac you know...if I don't see it, it's not happening. What can I do to fix it? Nothing...nada...so why get myself fired up over it? I didn't vote for him....

With celebrity gossip I can believe it or not. I can choose to get angry with what is reported or not...I can laugh at Brittney and Lindsey in her leggings..muhahahah! It doesn't scare me like national news does.

I say we send Britanny Spears, Paris Hilton and the others to Iraq. Let them serve. Of course we couldn't give them real ammunition.

I think that people are more interested in celebrity gossip than whats going on in the real world. Its a shame.

of course. It is all part of the Bush Propaganda Machine. Keep the dumb masses occupied with trivial matters so that they can forget about the debacles in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea, and elsewhere.
