You will need to talk to your recruiter about it. But, basically, you really are not obligated to anything yet. Yes, you signed a bunch of papers and everything, but your actual enlistment doesn't start until you are off to basic training. That's when the clock starts ticking.

No, you signed a contract. Also the military only allow a 3 by 5 as the shortest time to enlist. But even that is hard to come by. Your Bonus will be effected and depending on your MOS you may not be able to sign up for anything less than 5 by 3. You signed the contract now fufill your obligation and stop being a *****.

No.
4 years is the minimum.
You may be able to go from 5 years to 4 years, but you would lose your enlistment bonus for doing so.
The military is not a bad life at all and you get sweet benefits. Just go for it and relax. Once you are all done with boot camp and see the REAL military you will be very happy with your choice. Boot camp and the unknown of everything is scary to everyone. You won't be alone, just take one day at a time and soon you will be living like a regular person again getting paid well and having tons of fun.

Once you sign and swear there is no changing.....
Just a minor point......DEP and training (Basic & AIT).....is not the military......you really have no idea what military life is about or like...... how you will fit......If you go in for a short tour; you can always extend
BUT if you go in for 5......you serve 5...... or ruin your life with an other than honorable
this is the adult world......there are no "do overs"

not easily. for one, very few jobs offer only a 2 year commitment. two, ALL contracts are for EIGHT YEARS total.
you would have to lose the current job you have been slated for as that has a 5 year commitment, and choose one that has a shorter commitment. most are 4 years though.. VERY FEW jobs only have 2 or three years.
Depending on Branch, there may not even be any.

Why not ask your Recruiter this question he/she would have the correct answer for you! Better to get the information straight from the horses mouth than take a chance on bad information....Navy Mom

Don't worry, 5 years will pass like nothing. Besides all your friends who don't do anything will all still be back home doing the same old, same old, when you get home.
