I believe that the universe is still as unknown and unknowable as it was to our ancient ancestors. It is the nature of the human animal, when faced with a great mystery which holds or seems to hold the power of life and death, to try to explain it as best she can.
I believe this is the only thing which separates our species from the rest of the life forms. Our explanations have evolved through many transitions over the eons of human existence. Each time a new "truth" is discovered or invented there is great to-do and everyone who "believes" is sure mankind and the world will be forever changed by it.
So far we are just as we were when the first human dropped the first flower on the grave of a dead loved one and wished the spirit of life a safe journey to whatever awaited. We make love, we make war, we are greedy, generous, loving, wrathful, hopeful, despairing and wondering. So mote it be. Life is a puzzle and a mystery. Let us continue seeking the explanation together in peace.

Hmm, no preaching etc.? This should be interesting lol. In answer to your question, I believe God created the dinosaurs. Before the flood, scientists believe that the earth had a "canopy" of water in the atmosphere. In the Bible (sorry lol) it says that God opened up the heavens to flood the earth. This removed the "canopy" making the dinosaurs and other various life forms more susceptible to the sun's rays. This killed them off. Why do I believe in God? Take a look around you. This world we live in is so complex, it couldn't just happen. Take the human body for example. Do you really think that something so incredible could just happen? And as for evolution, if we evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys? And the Big Bang Theory? Something had to be there to explode. So where did that come from? It all boils down to this: If evolution is true, then everything came from something right? Well, where did the first "something" come from? It had to be created. There's a lot more I could say, but it would be "preaching" lol. So I'll leave it as is for now. But if you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me.
~Kat~
P.S. And God loves everybody, and encourages us all to do likewise. He never encouraged us to hate anyone. In fact, He told us to "Love our enemies, and do good to those who persecute you." I'll be honest and say that not all Christians follow this principle. But if Christians hate anyone, it is by their own doing, and has nothing to do with God. :)

Well, before this organised religions came into being and no one told any one about any God, the notion of God had come into place. People saw the rain and thought that there must be a super powerful being that made rain - the rain God. Similarly Sun God and so many other Gods. People wanted to understand the reason and wanted to have an explanation for everything happening around them. You trace the European history and you will find that before Christianity you had Nature worshippers called pagans. So even though no one tells you anything about any God, human mind always tries to find some superpower whose existence tries to explain the unexpected events, the events which he cannot understand. Probably, I too would have invented such a God.

We are finding fossils of dinosaurs because the devil is constantly out there burying them to confuse us so that we don't believe in god and end up spending eternal life with him. You know, because the earth is only 6000 years old. Okay, okay, sarcasm is over.
Religion was started as a form of control over the masses, nothing more, nothing less. And as the original poster said it also gives people something to believe in because the idea of being gone when we die with no where to go scares the crap out of people. It is a shame though that most of the population are sheep and give up many, many things and treat many, many people poorly because of outdated ideology that was written thousands of years ago.
Think about it for one second and consider why if there was this great, invisible person in the sky he would condemn people to hell simply because of where they are born. Born in India, most likely not Christian, going to hell per Christians. Born in the US, going to hell because you are not Islamic, Hindu etc per the other religions. Makes no sense at all.
Ignorance may be bliss, but you really do miss out on a lot along the way. However, believe what you want it makes no difference to others or myself, we just get very tired of hearing you spew your lies and negative view points on the non-believers. We have a right to believe what we want just like you do and I promise you.... in the end, we will all end up in the same place.

I can't imagine why you care if you don't believe.
I don't need fear of hell or a wrathful God. My fear is of evil, and there's plenty of that for you to see. I also fear intolerance and ignorance. God doesn't tell us to hate anyone. Hate the sin, and love the sinner.
Evolution fits in with my beliefs -- I'm Roman Catholic -- because I believe that however it happened, God caused it to happen. Whether He created the world in a week or a zillion years, He still created it.
Your questions have been asked by many before you and will continue to be asked by many more.

God is just as real as Bart and Homer Simpson are. There are throngs of Simpsons fans who visit with and even interact with the Simpsons weekly (some watch the Simpsons on Sunday mornings, some on Wednesday evenings, and some really zealous fans can watch the Simpsons every day or even stand on the street corner and preach about the Simpsons!)
Of course, when you get so wrapped up in the Simpsons that you start assigning magical powers to them and making them your reason for living, you can lose track of the fact that the Simpsons (like a lot of other fictional characters) were and are just imaginary characters that someone made up and wrote about.

I'm with you. I don't believe in the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, or Santa Claus- must make me a bad person, huh? I think religion is out there because people are so scared of the unknown ( death ), that they have to have a Heaven or Hell to know where they are going when they die. As for me, I tell my friends and family that they can throw me wherever they like- I'M D.E.A.D.- so why would I care?

Moses' deity Yahweh who became the English Christian God (Dieu in France, Gott in germany, Dios in Spain, etc.) is ceratinly not real, since the Bible is so full of contradictions and ignorance about science and reality. It is easy to see that naive men who claim to speak for a god wrote it. Robert s. DeRopps said that organized religion is the world's oldest con game. Making priests rich is why 'holy books" are written.

I beleve in God. There has been no proof in my lifetime to say that He exists, many people are saying that He doesn't. As a Roman Catholic, I don't beleve that evolution didn't happen, it's happening all the time! I'm pretty sure that God created the dino's first.
We don't hate people because of their sexuality, we love them just the same. I have friends that are gay, lesbian and bi. and I don't really care that much. He only said to hate all that is evil, love all that is good. I don't hate the person, just their action.
