When I removed my Christmas cake from the oven I poured brandy over it. However, I have now discovered that one of my Christmas guests is a recovered alcoholic. Does this mean I can't let him have any cake?

Let the person know what you did and have them make the decision..

If you actually cook with alcohol the alcohol burns off and leaves flavor...

Your homemade cake sounds lovely! I am also a recovered alcoholic and can only really speak for myself, I don't eat Xmas pudd or cake with alcohol in. In fact I have to be very careful at Christmas time as the stuff is in everything! x

The alcohol in the cake cooks into the mix and some evaporates. This is just for flavor. I would let him know that you did use Brandy to cook with and then let him decide. I don't think that that small of an amount shoudl be an issue.

Well I don't think so...each piece of cake is only going to contain a tiny amount of alcohol and I don't think you can really taste it anyway. I would just let him know that it does contain a bit of alcohol and then he can decide whether he wants some or not. Enjoy your cake!

Just let your guest know, the amount in a slice of cake is going to be small, unless you used a whole bottle.

Tell your friend what you did to your cake and let him decide. I think that it would be fun. It's not like your doing shots of brandy and then taking a bite of cake. It's a small amount that really isn't going to have any affect on them.

i dont think it would be advisable as the alcohol isnt burnt off. but so they dont feel left out you could either make or buy a small one to cut thier slice from. hope it all goes well and you have a nice time
