I am a Catholic who believes in Intelligent Design, but there are many Christians who believe in Young Earth Creationism, and I respect that. However, it gets me when they say "i didn't evolve from a monkey", or "If I evolved from a monkey why are they still here".

For all the strict evolutionists out there, what would you think about a bumper sticker that says "I didn't evolve from a monkey, either", since you didn't?

No offense to any young-earth creationists, either.

I actually believe in Theistic Evolution, but more people have heard of ID.

Then they'd think I was agreeing with them. Maybe something like "I never SAID I evolved from a monkey." On the other hand, bumper stickers and T-shirts have got to be the lowest possible form of debate.

Intelligent Design, as defined- is no more or less valid than Creationism. It is equally a cop-out. Before taking what I just said as an insult- look at what ID is stating:

ID is NOT the statement that God just planted the seed of evolution- ID states that we have no idea how it all started, nor do we know how it all progressed- it must have been god.

This is stating that "even though every fact, artifact, and piece of evidence that we have to support a theory with over 150 years of testing and scrutiny already survived- we just don't know, so we'll attribute this to a god- our god (conveniently enough)." ID is nothing more than a ploy to push Creationism into schools, it undermines a necessary science to humanity's future- and jeopardizes our progress in the medical field (especially in the area of antibiotics).

And no- my bumper sticker just says Darwin.

I would hate to confuse them into a semi-coma and have then crash. But it might be a good idea to start a campaign to help Creationists learn a little about science. We could call the campaign "Evolution: Get an 8th Grade Education All Over Again."

Here are some other bumper sticker ideas.

"I have a theory: You don't know what a theory is"
"I'm still waiting on Pascals Wager"
"I'm not too complex, you're just too dumb"
"Radiometric dating is real"

It does not boil down to faith on the side of evolution versus religion. It boils down to who can prove their case. Unfortunately religion in ALL of it's forms is always lacking in any real facts or evidence. Therefore, most rational people believe in evolution because it's proved it's case beyond any shadow of a doubt.

To deny the facts is lunacy. Would you argue that a light is turned on when it is? Would you argue that cars exists? Would you argue that electricity exists? The answer is no, and the reason you would not argue is because all the evidence points to yes. Is it possible that you're just hallucinating and car and light are simply in your imagination? Yes, but not very likely. This is the train of thinking that people lose when it comes to religion because it's a great idea, and if it were true it would give all of us meaning. However, the belief in something that's caused so much harm and so little good is just irresponsible.

Overwhelming evidence supports this fact. Scientists continue to argue about details of evolution, but the question of whether life has a long history or not was answered in the affirmative at least two centuries ago.

The history of living things is documented through multiple lines of evidence that converge to tell the story of life through time. In this section, we will explore the lines of evidence that are used to reconstruct this story.

These lines of evidence include:
Fossil evidence
Homologies
Distribution in time and space
Evidence by example

I like it, but it would be misunderstood.

I don't understand why they (the creationists) fixate on apes rather than the single celled bacteria-like organisms that we all (all life forms) evolved from or even the lizards that came before the apes. Can anyone explain THAT to me.

I do like that some of them put fish on their bumpers since we actually DID evolve through the form of a fish! I think it is ironic and funny that they don't understand this.

We humans share common ancestors with the "monkeys" (chimps, gorilas and a few others). But if you want to label an australopitecus afarensis (for instance) as a "monkey", go ahead. I can't see anything wrong in descending from a "monkey".

Well, I would venture to say that no one on the planet believes that humans evolved from monkeys.

The people who do not believe in evolution obviously do not.

The people who accept the theory do not either. The theory of evolution says that humans and apes share a common ancestor. That does not mean that humans descended from apes. It is more like being cousins. We share the same set of grandparents (just many, many times removed)
