I'm an atheist and I'll be a grandparent and a great-grandparent at some point. So why would it be a lie to claim my own grandparents or great-grandparents were?

my great grandparents were Hindus but my grandparents converted to Islam by the grave of God. i would love to add that we should not follow even our parents blindly. we should follow the truth. and everyone should do research and find out what is true. i am not a Muslim only because my parents were Muslims. i am a Muslims because i have read about all the religions and got the proof that Islam the true way. peace be on all of you

How could you know that peoples' parents weren't atheists? That seems like a big assumption that you can not support. If my daughter was answering, she could say that her parents are atheist and would not be lying.
In my case, my parents, grandparents and countless generations back were mostly protestants with some catholics as well. Some of my ancestors were burned at the stake for their faith by some of my ancestors who thought they were heretics.

3 of my 4 biological grandparents are LDS. My grandfather used to be, but he is now an atheist. I can give you his phone number if you would like to call and check. Although he doesn't deal with idiots very kindly.
As far as my great grandparents, 2 were Baptists, the rest were LDS.

My mother's family is all Catholic. My father's family is not all that religious, more or less non-denominational Christian.
What makes you think there are no atheist grandparents?

it might not be a lie, you cannot say that...there have been atheists since the beginning of time, it's only in the information age that our numbers have grown so quickly...
I think my grandparents on my mom's side are/were catholic, my dad's side christian (though i don't know what sect)
great grandparents I'm not sure, but I'd guess catholic/christian too...

Im English,my grandad fought in the great war WW1 and was church of England, when he came back unlike most of his friends he said no God could exist and let this slaughter happen,so he did become an athiest and also a communist so I don't know why you would assume all people believed in god because that simply isn't true, read English literature there are plenty of examples of the common mans contempt for religion.....
