We know that some religions require that their followers confess sins to them and they will handle the sin and give just punishment, we know if you sin against your brother it is proper to confess the sin to your brother and Jesus stated come to me and i will forgive you. Theres only one that is a advocate for our sins and that is Jesus Christ! Why do some religions require that men hear sins when we have Jesus Christ? 1 John 2:1-2
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
2:2
And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

We are led to believe that the church are the true successors of Jesus, through Peter. This, they say, gives them the power of to absolve sin, as Jesus is said to have done in the bible verse you quoted. The fact is, that in the beginning, the church was paid for this duty, it became a money making machine, it gave them power of the sinners, usually the Kings and Princes of the past. This subject of sin and the power to absolve it, was what pushed Luther to write his 95 theses, which showed the Church and its, so called pius leaders, as the crooks they really were. I for one am amazed that people still think and believe that the church, any church, is the system that a God would work through to govern men/women. It was just another means of subjugation and manipulation initiated by greed and a hunger for power.

Right off-hand I cannot find the scripture verse that says something like: "Whose sins you shall forgive, shall be forgiven and whose sins you retain shall be retained". But it is there because confession is a sacrament instituted by Christ Himself. Confession is part of the penance itself. Sins can be forgiven outside the confessional, but it is still a requirement that one confess as soon as possible, since a greater degree of sorrow is required outside the confessional; and, one cannot always be sure of that. Fear of hell and a firm purpose of amendment is all that is required within the confessional. Absolution is a visible and certain sign the sins have been forgiven under the above conditions.

There is also a verse that says, "Confess your sins to one another."
However it never even hints that sins will not be forgiven if you don't do that. I think sometimes we need to talk to someone else just so WE feel better. But God forgives us on the basis of our Faith in Christ, and the only one we HAVE to confess to is God.

The elders' primary task is to act as shepherds. (Isaiah 32:1, 2; 1 Peter 5:2, 3) They should be especially careful to "clothe [themselves] with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, lowliness of mind, mildness, and long-suffering." (Colossians 3:12) Let them listen in a kindly way and then apply healing words from the Scriptures. (Proverbs 12:18) Some who are afflicted with painful "memories" have expressed appreciation for elders who make regular visits or even telephone calls to check to see how they are doing. Such contacts need not take a lot of time, but they show that Jehovah's organization cares. When the afflicted one realizes that his Christian brothers truly love him, he may be helped to recover a considerable degree of emotional balance.

No offense to anyone, but thats my problem with catholism. i dont know the details, but from what ive heard from catholics turned christian, they have to confess their sins to the preist, who in turn forgives them (through God? I dont know...). Is that saying that a sinner is not good enough to go to God himself and confess? It does say "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9. And it says "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden..." Matthew 11:28. So where in the scripture does it say that i must confess to my spritual leader and hope that God got the message and forgives me?

That's right!
Cut out the middleman [no matter how 'holy' he is] and confess your sins directly to God through Jesus Christ.

Yes it proves you don't go to "man" for forgiveness from God-you ONLY go to his Son Jesus Christ.
