I am basically a fiscal conservative and social liberal.

As an accountant, I believe that one of our top priorities as a country should be balancing our budget. Debt spiraling out of control accumulating at the great rate it is, is not healthy. I believe that being in a global market place, that a country's wealth will be as important as a country's military. I believe we may need to cut social programs and pork spending to accomplish a balanced budget...I do not believe we should raise taxes, given the current state of the economy.

I believe we need a strong defense system, and I believe we should invest military dollars in more "star wars" programs.

I believe we should reel in illegal immigration, not close our doors, but allow those that can put more into our society, than what they drain out of our society, to come in legally.

I'm not opposed to a flat tax, as long as there are no loopholes for anyone.

The right to bear arms should be a given, but I am not oppose

I am not opposed to more strict licensing guidelines...license the gun and the owner.

Finally, I am gay, I want the right to visit my partner of 17 years, if he is in intensive care in the hospital, the right to make decisions for his life, provide care to him, and inherit property, without going to great legal expense...basically, I want the rights that marriage affords...regardless of what you call it.

So, who should I vote for? I feel left out by both parties...

As long as the ultra-religious people control the Republican party and want to relegate me to second class citizenship, I cannot support their candidate...and as long as the Democrats, spend so foolishly, and tax the dickens out of us...I hate voting for them.....So, what's left? Your thoughts?

I ask this in R&S because I wonder if the ultra-religious people have the same problems...they feel they have to support one party because of a few issues, eventhough, there is so much more to consider.

Wow ... I'm amazed at alike our belief's are ... Except for being gay, although my brother is gay and has been with the same person for 22 years, so I understand your feelings !

I don't believe there are any candidates which will agree with all of your views. At least not while we have a two party system.
So what I have to do, I'm sure like many others, is prioritize what I think is most important. Then I take the top five and try to match it to a candidate...

Good luck my friend

Peace and love to you

The problem for you is that as seen by other countries you only have the choice of the "right wing conservatism" or the extreme right wing neo conservatism"...where are you partys that provide for the common man,the poor the destitute,Bush left new orleans and the poor who could not flee to starve and didn't visit for weeks...the UK isn't perfect and at the moment all parties seem to be taking centre ground, but we have the conservatives,New labour(was a socialist party) and the Liberal democrats, who are nothing like your democrats much more liberal and we as a country don't trust any of them....
Do the same as me.....I vote for "none of the above"

Ron Paul is the only major party candidate on either ticket who is both a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. None of the other major party candidates are fiscal conservatives.

You could always vote Libertarian. Fiscal conservatism and social liberalism is what they are all about.

You are believing the nonsense propaganda.

Dems do a lot better job with the economy that the pubelikins ever did.

If you are an accountant you should be noticing the recession they are desperately trying to cover up till after the election so they can blame it on the dems.

Love and blessings Don

Based on your beliefs, I would say Ron Paul. I'm not trying to endorse him (I actually support Kucinich) but I think his policies agree pretty well with your beliefs.

Why do you blame our out-of-control debt on Democrats? Bush and his cronies inhereted a budget surplus, but look at us now - thanks to them.
