Faith. The substance of all things hoped for. So where
is your faith. Do you have any, and do you use it ?
How do you go on with your daily lives, that is what I
wanna know. Example. If you play sports, and is an
Atheist. You go on a feeling of knowing, that you will
make it through. And that you just may, be able to
be productive in playing a game, and actually winning.
Or maybe you go through tribulation, and is hopeful
about overcoming the odds of life, against you. Like the
loss of a loved one, or perhaps you have been ill.
Or got into a financial crisis, and was on the verge of
losing it all. Whatever the case is. Have you ever exercised
faith ? And is it possible, to have faith. And not
believe in The Alimighty, or religion itself ? Best answer
wins. ~~~

I believe positive thinking or wishful thinking can help the indiviual play better or heal faster, but it is not necessarily indicative of reality.

Its not a 'grimy' be conscious in spite of the undeniable fact that it relies upon who's utilising it and what context. each physique has faith in something if not a definite perception device then an significant different, political flow, activities group or maybe in basic terms that the sunlight will upward push day after today. What issues human beings approximately faith is that some human beings will attempt and rigidity their faith directly to you, be it with the help of persuasion or with the help of threats. faith isn't something to experience embarrassment approximately, that's in spite of the undeniable fact that a private be counted and should not be pushed into the faces of people who do not ascribe to it. the international is a brilliant place and there is greater effective than sufficient room for the tens of millions of faiths accessible.

I find that "belief" and "faith" are dirty words generally and have no place in my life. Your view is distorted, as is common. All too many people are prejudiced against atheists, e.g. my Aunt Audrey and my sister Lois. I cannot fully enlighten you here, since it would take a book or many books to present the proper arguments. I can say that I do not base my life upon delusions, e.g. imaginary gods. That is on the same level really as expecting santa Claus to bring presents for Xmas. I use logic and it works much better than belief in nonexistent gods. In sports, I use logic to see which ones are best for me. I have done well in martial arts, boxing, powerlifting and weigtlifting. I was in the hospital 5 days a month or so ago, and there was some danger of dying. In 2003, I was in pain for months after kidney failure. My brother and my father died a few years ago. I see no room for faith or belief in imaginary gods for any reason. I just stay calm and do the best I can. What are you trying to say?

Faith is simply the belief in something that can not be proven. Believing in yourself is not faith because you know that you exist. You have an effect on how well you do at something, and you control how you deal with a situation. Therefore, there is no need to believe in something that can not be proven (ie: faith).

I am an Atheist, and I've really racked my brain over this question because it's a good one. I have to say that I don't have faith. I do have hope and trust, and belief in the natural goodness of man. However, I have things that prove this to be true, or at least give me hope that it is. Therefore, there is no belief in something that can not be proven (ie: faith). I think that part of being an Atheist is the realization that the belief in something that can not be proven is a waist of time. Now Atheist believe that religion serves a purpose, but for most of us the consequences are just to great to justify the purpose.

I do not have faith.

I have trust and experience.

When I play sports I do so because I trust that I will enjoy it. That has been my experience. If I have played the other team before, or know their reputation then I have a level of trust of whether I am going to win. I also know that random events have a factor and that I will enjoy it more if I play as best I can even if I am most likely to lose.

Faith is about as much use as a bicycle is to a fish. I live in the real world. If some unpredictable event happens in my favor then I can use it, if it happens against me then I must weather it. The best thing I can do is to plan properly, try to mitigate my risks and try to maximize my enjoyment of life.

It is the only one I will get.

well theres optimism and ignorance. blind faith that everything will turn out all right.
an optermistic person might have more chance of sucess than a pessermisic person.
but then a pesermist might be spurred into action by thinking their going to fail.
but then a pessermist will always be thinking negatively so regardless of result will never truely suceed.
so faith in optimism and the positive function of optimistic/ignorant thinking regardless of outcome.
always look to the positive:)

i've read a few of the other posts though and ignorance seems to be a big factor.

there are pros and cons to ignorance.

society and the whole human thing is ignorance and faith.

but frankly...I don't like the alternatives, so as usual it comes down to a balance.

Why do we think faith to be such a good thing. If you have faith in something, you believe it without evidence. If i believed if i drank tea i would turn purple, yet never drank tea, you would think i was ridiculous. if i believed there was a small woman living in my wardrobe who i couldnt see because she hid when i looked, youd think i was nuts. yet lots of people believe in god with no evidence and that is considered fine because its a common belief.
Lots of christians have faith because they "hope" God is true. Is it right to base your whole morality on something you hope is true, or should you admit you don't know and join the agnostics out there?
Having faith is not something to encourage. It provides and environment where the more faith you have, the better you are, and therefore if you have enough faith to think if you blow yourself up, or fight another country, you're going to be damaging people.
It would be a nicer world if people were a bit more sceptical.

I think your getting Faith and Hope mixed up here. I HOPE that one day England will win the World Cup. I have FAITH in my daughter passing her 'A' levels next year.

Hope is a wish for something against the odds where as I think faith is believing that something is true based on the way you interpret information.

Of course you can have faith and not believe in god(s). Faith is a quality you utilise. As explained I have faith in my daughter but, I don't have faith in a non-existent, supernatural, being in the sky.

Yes !

I have ‘ Faith ‘ I will cross the road and still be alive .
I have ‘ Faith ‘ I will overcome the death of my Parents !

I was not born yesterday . I cross the road 10 times a day and everyone copes with the death of their parents , Faith is not required and never necessary .

PS : I have Faith my answer is not the best answer .

By social convention , the word 'faith' is used by conventional religions , but faith can still be used by atheists or humanists. Faith in oneself , faith in family , faith in friends. The word 'faith' can mean anything to anyone. Faith means to me 'a belief' that most people have high moral values , taught by their forebearers and absolutely nothing to do with religion in any form. Keep 'religion' out of the equation.

Faith is a guess.... it's a hope of that which you want to be true, regardless of whether or not it is true.

Faith requires belief without facts, but the facts do not require belief. Show me some facts, and I might believe it... otherwise you can stop preaching your version of the truth to me, because you won't get anywhere unless you have some proof.

FACT: The only thing you know for sure is that you don't know anything for sure...
