I'm 26 f dating someone 36 m in a professional field. Is this work appropriate enough that I can bring him to my work Xmas party? Or will it raise some eyebrows?

if spouses and significant others are invited, then by all means, bring him and enjoy the party!

If eyebrows are raised, they shouldn't be. Your relationship is your business, age matters a lot less after you're out of school

The age difference between you and your significant other is not something that can be classified as "work" appropriate or inappropriate, it just is what it is. Whether or not eyebrows would be raised depends on the attitudes of the people you work with, but there's no etiquette for the situation.

The real question is: Are spouses/significant others INVITED to the party? If so, then invite him to join you. If not - then do NOT invite him to join you.

Either way - remember to stay stone-cold sober. No alcohol - not even a wee little nip. Stick to soft drinks - with a cherry or a lime squeeze. Nothing stronger.

That way, when everyone else gets stupid-drunk in front of the president, you won't be in that crowd.

Remember - office parties - are still business! Don't compromise your professionalism in the eyes of "fun" 'cause it won't be when you get bounced in the next round of layoffs.

You are an adult, it would be appropriate if you brought your 46 year old significant other to your work Christmas party.

If your 36 year old significant other does not know how to conduct themself in a social situation though, that is a different story, and that level of appropriateness has nothing to do with age.

The more imprtant question is do you FEEL apropriate bringing him? If you feel okay with it, than it is okay. However, you did ask this in etiquette, so I am going to say that it is perfectly appropriate for you to bring him even though there is an age difference.

If both parties are over 18, then age is a number and nothing more.

You're old enough to do what you want. It's not like he's 100 years old. My boyfriend is 6 years older than me, no one bats an eyelash at it.

By all means, bring him. If he means anything at all to you...think of how hurtful it would be to him to be left out. You are worrying more about other peoples reactions to him than you are HIS feelings.

Why would you not want to bring him, there's nothing wrong; it's your personal life and you don't have to answer to your co-workers.

Ask the boss first. If it is for only employees, don't bring him. And don't drink.
