I feel like being a devils advocate today, so here it goes.

If homosexuality is not a choice, which I do not believe it is, and this is proved by "who would choose to be ostracized," what do you think about Child Molesters and their natural (yet perverted) sexual inclinations?

Again, this is just a question for questions purposes.

Leina,

I am not aware that this question had been asked.

I understand the difference, consenting adults and manipulation of a minor. Thats a no brainer.

The correlation between the two, in a religous and spirituality sense, is the mental aspect of it. Not the legal aspect and humanitarian aspect.

It has to do with the temptation of sin and how we look at this being a matter of choice.

Where in one case, we force (and rightfully so) a person with a certain temptation and natural inclination to never act on it and villify it (again, rightfully so). In the other case, we say its not a choice (I agree) and we tell them not to worry about it.

Do you the issue people of faith have with this? I can easily see it and don't shrug it off as "ignorant fundies" I just explain the difference (as others have) of consenting adults vs. minors.

I could say that the same could hold true for Christians, or Atheists, but logic doesn't follow. Those are belief systems.

I thought about this for a bit and the only thing that comes to mind that has any bearing on this is that when this topic is discussed, I think of the phrase "sexual preference". If we take that specific terminology and apply it as fact, then we could say that each of these groups could do something other than what they do, yet they choose not to.

Nobody is forcing them to have sex within their own gender, nor is anyone forcing the second group to have sexual relations with children. They could do differently, but they don't. They might feel compelled somehow to do what they do, but I could feel compelled to do all sorts of things that I do not do, and would not do.

The second thing that comes to mind is self-control / discipline / call it what you like. In todays world, it seems there is little, if any of this within ANY GROUP, mentioned above or not.

I believe homosexuality is a choice in the same way that pedophilia is a choice.
It is interesting to see the shift in opinion towards homosexuality over the last 50 years. It was regarded as a crime not too long ago but now it is regarded by society broadly to be a normal sexual preference.
I suspect that the same thing will happen with pedophiles in a few years time. If it is regarded as nothing more than a sexual preference why criminalise it?

I don't see any connection between homosexuality and child molestation. In the first case it is between consenting adults, in the second case it is someone in a more powerful position taking atvantage of a person in a less powerful position - that is wrong. No correlation.

god forgives all sins so for sake of playing the devils advocate being a child molestor is all part of your God's plan but hurting a child isn't. so when the molestor acts on his natural instincts and hurts another person he violates gods plan. Homosexuals don't hurt others when they choose to love someone else. I would assume you could make the same argument for murders following their natural instincts but you seem to get into the sex thing....and I wonder what that says about you.

Child molesters make a choice for their selfish needs and could care less about who they are hurting. Gay people just want to be loved by the same sex. There is no comparison.

Well, since you asked in R&S, I will reply using religion. I believe that homosexuals and child molesters are simply being tested by God. They are given the impulse to want to do things they shouldn't, but ultimately they choose to follow the impulse or ignore it and follow God's way. So, it's not a choice but at the same time it is. Take a child molester--one day he gets this urge to touch a young girl. The urge keeps nagging at him, nagging at him, and he doesn't know why. He can choose to either go find a young girl and fulfill the urge, or he can choose to ignore that urge and find other ways to deal with it. I hope that makes sense!

even assuming that both are a matter of choice, both are also a matter of control.
Homosexual acts normally involve two or more consenting partners, where as child molestation does not and that is the main reason why it is such a heinous act.

Free will makes all our actions a choice. It is a divine gift. This is a probationary time for all humans alive at this moment. We all have evil tendencies but stop ourselves at crucial times to not act, whether it be out of anger, lust or greed. Homosexuals or child molesters are no different.

Of course its a choice, If a straight person has sex its still a choice. Who ever I marry its still a choice. There is no getting around this, homosexuality is a sin according to the Bible, Gods Word, thats it, just like a straight man having sex outside of marriage is a sin, we all have choices to make. And we are all sinners, thats why Jesus Christ came and died on a cross so that He might wash away our sins if we believe in Him, and if we believe He will help us to overcome our sins. For people who are gay Jesus will help you to change that lifestyle just like He will help someone who is commiting adultry, Jesus will give the strength to overcome your weakness. He is almight God, He spoke the world into existance, all we have to do is trust in Him. He is our Saviour.

If homosexuality were a choice we'd all be born with no preference. I know only a very few people like that. Pedophiles and gays are quite different "breeds of cat."
