I can't see how there is really any thought required. No rational person with a college degree in Criminal Justice would join any branch of the military as enlisted. The law enforcement positions available out of college in most communities pay at least as much as a military officer makes. A person serving in the enlisted ranks will not attain the type of management experience that will help his career when he leaves the service. Most employers will assume that a person with a college degree who joined as enlisted only did so because he tested the waters and found the job opportunities in the civilian world were scant, and he was not accepted into any officer training program. I can't see how this could be a positive career step for anyone. No competent soldier, sailor or Marine is going to look at a competent officer as a "softy." If by "softy" you think that most officer's are not physically fit, it isn't true. For the most part officers are more physically fit than enlisted. At the service academies the physical fitness levels required are set at the outstanding level on the physical fitness test of the respective service. Most cadets and mids whether at a service academy or on rotc scholarship were athletes who lettered in a sport in high school. The same is true for those selected for the PLC. If you are not an officer you really don't have to be concerned with the men under you losing respect, since there will be few men under your command, so this is really comparing apples and oranges. A competent officer has the respect of the men under his command. That is how the military system functions. An enlisted malcontent who does not respect a competent officer because he has developed prejudices due to his own feelings of inadequacy and jealousy is the link in the chain that needs attention not the competent officer. I think the point that should be of concern is becoming a competent officer not choosing to be enlisted because if one were not a competent officer he would not have the respect of the men under his command. Good Luck!

1. YES
2. NO
3. The College or University must be accredited
as a 4 year College or University!
4. There may be some changes, so the best thing
to do would be to see a U S Marine Corps
Recruiter and they can give you the most
recent up to date information.
GOOD LUCK!!

You must have a degree from an accredited college; the type of degree is not as important as having one though the type will have some bearing on designation or what you are an officer of.

For specific careers it may make a difference. If you want to get into a Civil Engineering career a degree in Art History wouldn't help you out any, but if you want to go into Infantry a degree in underwater basket weaving would suffice(not knocking the infantry, just that it's a non-specific field)!

You still have to go through the training and the candidate school, the four year degree just qualifies you for that route.

Absolutely.
I know a Lt. Col. in the Marine Corps and he had a degree in driver's ed or something.
I'm sure he was exaggerating, but still. Doesn't matter what its in.
